No Go in Win98SE

v528 will not run for me in Win98SE. It seems to run okay in XP SP3, and it seems to run okay in Vista after initializing with "Run as Administrator", but no go at all in Win98SE. In Win98SE, I get the error message: "jv16pt.exe is linked to missing ADVAPI32.DLL".

P.S. I do have an ADVAPI32.DLL in my \Windows\System folder so I don't know why jv16pt thinks it's missing.

Does the new v531 fix the installation/run problem in Win98SE?

No. This is from the announcement on the Macecraft site:

Improved product's compatibility with the upcoming Windows 7 operating system, and verified that the product does not work under Windows 98 and therefore Windows 98 has been removed from the list of supported operating systems.

Ah, okay.. Is that something new that was added? I could've sworn that when I looked at the system requirements for v1.9 when it first came out that Win98SE was still on the list.

Machts nichts... I always assume that sooner or later programs will stop running on Win98SE. I still have v1.8 that works so I'm good.

I get this same problem in Windows NT 4.0.

It looks like everything older then Windows 2000 isn't supported anymore.

* Windows NT4, 2000, XP, 2003 Server, Vista or Windows 7. ...

In that case, they'll need to change it ...

The aging out was bound to happen sooner or later. Actually, in my limited experience, jv16 held on for longer than most. I thought they'd give it up with v1.8 but they finally got that working with Win98SE.

I may have missed it, but does Macecraft provide archival copies of the older versions anywhere? I still have v1.8 archived for myself, but I imagine others might want to keep a copy if they have old OSs.

Well, I don't actually know any specific reason why the 2009 version wouldn't also work with Windows 98 but I didn't have time to debug it. I might do it later on if I get the Vista 64 bit issues sorted out easily.

Of course, we have an extensive library of old versions available. The syntax is: http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/jv16pt_setup_hb_<version>.exe So for example to get the last version of PT 2008 download: http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/jv16pt_setup_hb_1.8.0.468.exe

I would guess that the newer compilers generate code that barfs Win98SE. I think I read somewhere that a lot of problems are in the graphics handling??? I really have no idea.
