Well, actually the "beta testing" IS finished.

We're using the "final" version (1.9.0.528) now, but as you can see there are still several issues to fix...

airborne i tried your method but again, it does solve Java, yet all other plugins give you the protected mode popups.

I would really like some input from JV on this, we heard nothing from him in over a week since this issue have been raised...

Hello!

Strange i have fixed all my computers this way. Probably the only thing you can do is a system restore. Have seen cases when this was the only solution to this problem! Both you and me knows this happend with the installation of JV16 Power Tools 2009. But the developers don't want to recognise this issue. Better to be quiet when you don't have a solution to the problem.

If you pay you shouldn't need to have this kind of issues. Read my post PAYING TO BE BETA TESTER.

I still have not seen any evidence that this problem is linked to PowerTools. I'd be more than happy to fix this problem if you can show that the problem in fact is in PowerTools but so far I have not seen that.

Hello!

Its exist i have seen it on all my computers. Have friends who have the same issue. Have only seen it on Vista Ultimate and business. Don'T know if the problem exist in the other Vista versions. This must be fixed so we don't break UAC and JAVA with the next release also.

Kind regards

Many reports here in this topic indicate almost conclusively that the behavior arises primarily from UAC. If PowerTools is not marked to "run as administrator," that may be a contributing factor. Just using it from an administrator's usrid is not always sufficient apparently.

Java may also have contributed. For example, Java 6 Update 12 addresses a great number of small issues, including the one described here: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=17783#p17783 -- it doesn't happen anymore with Update 12 installed.

I suppose you have checked the "Don't show" box in the pop-ups like the one you posted at the head of this topic ... ?

jv16 to clarify things, i have always used an image created prior to installing v. 2009, and always restored that image after testing - those protected mode prompts always started specifically after installing v. 2009. the only thing that changed was installing v. 2009, further tests were done on an existing VMware imgae. see my steps in the previous thread for a play by play description.

@tullik I opted to wait till a fix so i always reverted to a prior image.

Hello!

Everything work as long as you always runs the program as administartor. Why must you always have to run JV16 2009 as administrator, for the program to get access to all files. This was never needed in 2008 version.

Kind regards

Sorry, we encountered an error while displaying this content. If you're a user, please try again later. If you're an administrator, take a look in your Flarum log files for more information.

I think perhaps PT2009 may be doing a few more advanced system calls to windows than were done in PT2008, and therefore needs a higher authority level. Fortunately, in Vista, you can permanently mark shortcuts to "run as administrator." In XP, you have to do the right-click thing if an administrator userid is not sufficient ...

jv16 can confirm or reject my speculation ...

Hello!

To run as administrator is no problem ( To everybody right click icon Shortcut click run as administrator). I think it must be a solution to this. Or everybody that buys the program should be informed about that. This issue only occurs in Vista no need to run as administrator in Xp when i tested.

Hi all!

I experienced exactly the same problem as described by airborne (and others). I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate as well, uninstalled the 2009 version 1.9.0.528 and went back to the 2008 version (my java version was version 6 update 12). After the release of version 1.9.0.531 I did the following: a) uninstalled PowerTools 2008, b) uninstalled the java version 6 update 12, c) installed the PowerTools version 1.9.0.531 and d) finally installed the java version 6 update 12 again. No prompt for protected mode anymore, without running PowerTools in the administrator mode. So, apparently the problem has been solved in the latest release (or the order of installing makes a difference?).

Just to let you know!

Herman Heller

Hello!

The issue seems to be fixed. Problem occurred on computers installing the release version.

Yes, I know. My sarcasm was obviously lost on some. Nevertheless, as airborne rightly points out, the paying customer is being forced to participate in beta testing if they choose to run PT 2009, despite repeated assurances from jv16 that it's a finished product.

It's an old trick practiced by far too many developers in this industry. It's truly disappointing that Macecraft has found it necessary to play this game. I recommend everyone stick with PT 2008 until the "beta testers" have finished their work.

Cheers!

I'm using Windows (+SPn+KBad infinitum).

Which suggests what?

Lots of bugs, lots of fixes. The more complex and varied the environments in which a program runs, the greater the likelihood that design holes and code flaws will be exposed.

Viewed from an objective distance, both Microsoft and Macecraft continue to improve as the years go by.

Ergo, the half-baked release syndrome.

I actually agree with you, but correlating such progressive improvements with releasing updated/new versions before they're truly ready to go is… well, ridiculous.

And to be honest, the timing for releasing new/updated versions is purely a marketing decision - not because the software had been sufficiently tested.
