After installing jv16 it seems like protected mode permissions in IE under Vista had been reset somehow, all IE addons, like flash player, Java and so onm, give me a protected mode promp.

This was recreated under VMware.

Vista 32bit sp1

Installation of PowerTools could not cause such thing, so did you use the PT in some ways and if you did, what exactly did you?

Hello!

This is no coincidence the same happend to me on 3 computers messed up UAC in all computers. Now i must use my computers with UAC turned off. Asked for prompts of all IE7 plugins again. Java is impossibel to repair have uninstalled and installed again. The only way to make java work is to have UAC turned off. This wasent what i expected when i upgraded to 2009. Have a friend that uses JV16 and the same error ecured in his computer to. This is an very serious isue. I am not an expert on computers but not an ameteur ither. I can get java to work again but only if i create a new administartor account in vista. (have tried this). But i hope somebody have a better solution. By the way my computer is a 32bit Vista Ultimate.

Kind Regards

So you didn't even start the PowerTools even once? Only installed it?

Hello!

That's right when i tried to run JV16 power tools 2009! It also said the program hadn't access to al files so i was forced to right click the icon and run as administrator.

What a mess haven't had any problems with UAC before!

Kind regards

So you did start the application?

OK i did further testing and this seems to be an issue with the jv16 messaging display.

Here are the steps:

run install, choosing always next next not changing anything, once setup is done it runs the wizard again not changing and hitting next next, once the quick analysts is done, run IE get the protected mode prompt.

Then i did further testing the only thing i changed was choose the normal windows dialog for messaging instead of the message window, NOW this is not consistently but on some occasions i got a single elevation request (not the protected mode alert pictured above) and on others i got the protected mode alert, but it does seem like the messaging display has something to do with it, in any case the alerts came only after the wizard was done, even when hitting test in the messaging stage of the wizard and then running IE it was OK no popups.

Hello!

Tested JV16 Powertools 2009 on another account in my computer the same thing happens, JAVA asks for permission to run and i give permission but when testing java doesn't work. What is this, i probably will install 2008 insted. In my log files in Vista ultimaten Jv16 power tools 2009 is flagged to have compatibility issues and Vista wants search for a solution to the problem. My question is what happens when i installs JV16 power tools 2009 that makes JAVA break with UAC problems. What's the connection between the JAVA issue and the installation of JV16 powertools 2009. When i disable UAC everything works.

Somebody who have any suggestion what the problem is and how to solve it!

Kind regards

Somebody who have any suggestion what the problem is and how to solve it! . . .

I normally run with UAC off.

In response to this topic, I did the following:

  • 1. Turned on UAC

    2. Turned on the IE option "Enable Protected Mode"

    3. Rebooted

IE then crashed every time when java was used; it didn't crash if java was not used. The windows error code was "BEX" (buffer overflow exception). PowerTools was not even running.

So I reversed 1 and 2 above and IE/java no longer crashed.

I didn't test with 1 and not 2.

I didn't test with 2 and not 1.

I didn't test with Firefox or Opera, which work OK with java the way I usually run.

I didn't test if uninstalling PowerTools made a difference.

I think it likely the problem is some issue involving IE7/java/DEP.

Is your Java up-to-date? Update 12 Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE), JRE 6 Update 12 can be found at

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsphttp://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Also ensure that all old versions of Java have been uninstalled. Go to Control Panel>Programs and Features and uninstall all versions except Java Update 12.

I run Vista SP1 64-bit; however, IE7 is the 32-bit version (default). I have UAC enabled and "Enable Protected Mode" on. No problems experienced with IE7/UAC/Java and PT 2009 installation. The 64-bit IE7 runs fine too.

Also, on the icon for PT 2009, on the Compatibility tab of Properties, be sure that "Run this program as an Administrator" is checked.

Hello!

I always have the latest JAVA and older ones are uninstalled! Tested on another account JAVA work perfectly until the first time i open JV16 Power tools 2009! Did one registry cleaning in the lowest setting of registry cleaning. After this JAVA didn't work again, but i always check what the registry cleaning wants to remove but it didn't remove anything related to JAVA that i could see. Probably it happens as soon as i started JV16 power tools! I tries to recreate all types of scenarios. But this is very strange. But iam not alone with this problem so i must be some issue between Jv16 2009 and JAVA. But what, its very strange but needs to besolved.

Kind Regards

Hello!

And why works all perfectly with UAC disabeld!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only people who may have the solution to this is the developers of this program! i would like somebody of them to replay!

Kind regards

Hans

I have had the same issue. I was running Vista Ultimate (x86), Java Update 11 when I installed JVPT 2009.

I ran registry cleaner on lowest (default) setting, and FIXED ALL. There seemed to be a lot of errors (500 or so), considering JVPT 2008 was 'clean' given the 'same' settings, but the listed errors 'seemed' to make sense.

After that I got the Protected Mode prompts for all IE7 plug-ins (Java, Adobe etc etc). I was also unable to successfully use the 'Test your installation of Java' webpage or to update to update12 via the Java control panel (said there were no updates available).

I manually updated Java to Update 12, and opening up IE, I received the Protected mode prompt once more. Since then, all seems to be working OK. I can now use the 'test the Installation of Java' webpage successfully again.

Definitely something strange happening.

Hello!

I also got JAVA to function again one time but the problem was soon recurring!

Hello!

The problem is JV16 Power Tools 2009! The problem never existed before this installation. Probably best if it would have been beta for a couple of more months!

We need som type of dialog with macecraft what causes this issue!
