What exactly do you find so impressive?
The software should have installed and worked as it was released, period.
I agree, the product's initial version should have worked perfectly. On the other hand, when does that happen? Does not every single computer software get updated to fix problems?
I do apologize for the inconvenience caused by the bug but things like this sometime happen. Microsoft's Zune player didn't work on one day because it had a bug in it's calendar functions. New car models have to be maintained on a regular basis simply to update their software. This happens, I'm afraid, but it does also happen to other companies and products as well.
Yrag says my earlier post was an illogical rant, and suggests it's a Windows problem. I thought my post was quite logical, (still do), and I still don't see an answer to the question I posed to him.
jv16 agrees it should have worked, but then goes on to say, "When does that happen"? As if new software never works, or never works properly.
I've been using Vista 32 bit since April of 2007. I've had no problems with it since I installed it. The ONLY problems I've had were a couple of vendors who refused to update their software/drivers to make their software Vista compatible, and even then Vista was able to run their software in compatibility mode!
I just installed the new version of Raxco's PerfectDisk a few days ago without a single problem. Prior to that it was SynchPST a few weeks ago and again, not one single problem. Within the last couple of months I've also installed Malwarebytes, (freeware), IsoBuster, Firefox 3, (freeware), AND Nod32 V.4 BETA, yes beta, all without a problem of any kind.
Yes, I've had software over the years that did not work or did not work properly...........the point I'm trying to make is..........I no longer buy or use that software.
Now, you can attack me if you'd like but that won't change the facts. jv16 Users have had way too much trouble for way too long with this software. It's not ranting to say that I can't trust a software package that can't even read it's own license! Especially considering the problems we've had with releases over the last couple of years! That, friends and neighbors, is just a fact.
If this was the first time there was a problem like this, I'd do what I did the first time, wait till it's fixed and see what happens the next time! But for me, as I said earlier, this is the last time. Protestations from the author and others can't change that. The AUTHOR could have changed that with this release, but he did not.
I'll give you your answer now.
I wasn't suggesting it was a Windows 'problem'. I was stating as a comparison that due to the complexity of it being an OS, that it’s proportionally rift with release errors and requires updates from day one. If you've never seen one I can only assume you've never looked at your error log. What do you think those second Tuesday every month installs are? Certainly not enhancements. There are still Windows ME editions crashing somewhere in the world to this day so, based on your analogy, you should be using a Mac.
Coding is as complex in a single program as it is in an OS.... there's just a lot more of it in the latter. It still has to work on machines that no two are alike and that, by any standard, is a daunting task .
You stated PerfectDisk was a perfect release. One hour after I installed it I posted a Registry value on the Raxio boards to fix it. 24 hours after that, Raxio issued the .exe bug fix to get "close on exit" to work. Not a version update, just a fix.
That's why Macecraft's "time to fix' was impressive.
That error in a release should have been even easier to detect then this license debacle. Can I assume you didn't see that error either? Here's the fix if you want it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Raxco\PerfectDisk\10.0\Preferences
Add this string value under first 'Preference' entry.
Exit On Close
(set to true)
OR
Minimize On Close - http://ftp.raxco.com/pub/download/pd10/tools/pd10MinimizeOnClose.exehttp://ftp.raxco.com/pub/download/pd10/tools/pd10MinimizeOnClose.exe
Exit on Close - http://ftp.raxco.com/pub/download/pd10/tools/pd10ExitOnClose.exehttp://ftp.raxco.com/pub/download/pd10/tools/pd10ExitOnClose.exe
My gripe with Macecraft was that the license issue was a repeat from last year. If this had been the first time, I'd have viewed the situation differently. The other errors were just that. If not for the initial license error, I would have done what I always do. Collectively (via board and developer) determine the errors and help fix them. It can happen any day to anyone. That said, the only people that come to the boards are people with problems. By any gauge, that makes for a very small percentage of users.
I also use:
Windows
jv16 PT
PerfectDisk
Are they flawless? Not now and never will be. In a perfect world they would be. Unfortunately, we live in an imperfect world and have to deal with it.
I would be remiss if I didn't say that many think the way you do and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. I don't happen to be one of them, but I do agree with you that accountability is paramount. That doesn't make me right and you wrong or vice versa and it certainly isn't an attack. It's just an opinion and opinions are like asses...everybody has one.
That's why I found your posting "illogical".
Now we've both stated our opinions and there it ends.
