Disk Wiper question

I searched the forum but found no answers to my queries (below). In fact, there were a surprising number of "no responses" to almost all disk wiper queries. I hope this isn't a touchy issue...

Anyway, I've been wiping a 160GB 5400RPM external drive for the past three and half hours and the progress bar is at less than 10%. The details indicates the following:

Files wiped: 13742

Last file wiped: *****

Data written: 17.24 GB

Speed: 1.40 MB / sec

Time elapsed: 03

This is taking far too long. Is this module just not up to par? Am I doing something wrong? Am I being too impatient? Any suggestions on another program? The following are my system specs:

Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz

2 gigs of memory

Vista Business

Wiping a disk simply takes a long time. There shouldn't be any major speed differences between software because the wiping procedure is always the same: writing data over with other data.

If it takes over 3 hours to wipe under 10%, it will take you about two days (48 hours) to wipe the entire drive. If I did the math right, that is.

As I said, I really don't think there is much difference between programs. The only way to speed up the process is to write less data, and that decreases the quality of the wipe procedure (i.e. makes it possible to recover the wiped data, at least in theory).

But please, do let us know if you find some other program that can do the job faster.

Thanks for noticing how Disk Wiper issues have been ignored so conveniently.

I reported the issue about a year ago and it went over EVERYONE'S head including the mighty gurus and so called know-it-alls here.

2 Days to wipe a HD? R-wipe&clean did my 300 GB portion of my HD drive in a little under ONE HOUR while JV-PT completely--completely failed to wipe anything . And, the mighty gurus had no comment about failure of the so called JV disk wiper.

A complete worthless feature.

Sorry, I do NOT use that feature and I'm almost certain I never will use it, so I do not test it and I am not able to give comments or advice about it :|

Have you tried another program already? And what's the result?
