Screenshots of PT 2009

Here are the first screenshots of PT 2009's improved user interface.

So, what's new with the main GUI:

* Larger and clearer tool icons

* Support for mouse wheel

* Standard Windows caption bars

* Standard (but better looking) window menus

* Faster operation and startup time

What's new with the Registry Cleaner:

* Better result format (and don't worry, the old PT 2006 raw list mode is still available)

* More accurate error severity estimation, doesn't just say "high", "low", "medium" etc but shows a detailed graphic bar that displays the error severity. The algorithm that estimates the error severity has been also greatly improved. For example it understands to give MRU items a low error severity rating, as well as to temp files, and high rating for invalid DLL references.

And that's not all! We are still working to get rid of those cumbersome long tab lists that you have to scroll with the arrow buttons.

Wow!!! What a difference. Really starting to look more like a polished product.

Given the changes you're making to the interface, will the product still run as quickly, especially on older machines? It's important to remember that a large number of your customers use Power Tools to keep their aging machines running better than new. Creating a slow, bloated monster out of what has been a speedy program will not make anyone happy.

Will the product still be called jv16? At this point, you should consider a change to Macecraft Power Tools (or something similar). Though we all know and love jv16, that name has a bit of a 'home brew' connotation. Just a thought.

Actually the new user interface is faster than the old one, and the memory usage and hard disk drive usage should be about the same so PowerTools is definitely not going towards bloating up.

This is something we have been thinking quite much (or not me that much, I just like to focus on making the product to work better, other people can think things like this) but I don't see any reason to change the name at least yet. If you can remember the name, it's really difficult to forget and anywhere you go, you can just google "jv16" and you can always found our website.

When one minimizes a PT2009 window, will its logically associated message window also minimize?

I say "logically" because there may be no messages at the time the PT2009 window minimizes.

It seems to me a "Monkey wrench" (adjustable spanner) is not the right icon for the Registry Compactor.

The current icon (with the bench vice) is much more convenient.

It's nice, but without accompanying text it will take some time to become used to the purpose of each icon.

But maybe the text will appear when moving the mouse over them?

Or maybe the user wille have the choice to view the icons with or without accompanying text?

Of course, a Hint / Tooltip pops up when you move your mouse over any of the icons.

I'm hoping to give you guys the very first beta version to test in a few days.

Good morning from Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This is my first time visiting your forum, but I am an avid fan and constant user of PT2008 since February, when I launched my own professional practice. This requires having only "no-nonsense" applications on my professional laptop. PT2008 'RegistryCleaner' showed me that RootKit had 'moved in' when no other utilities did - including ZoneAlarm's Internet Security Suite. But I found a product by another Macecraft-like vendor (i.e., less focus on "flash, glitz and marketing" and more on "producing and supporting an application that gets the job DONE"): F-Secure's Internet Security Suite 2009. By using PT2008 and F-Secure as a team, I have resolved the RootKit problem. I am finding more and more evidence that the better software producers are "offshore U.S." In fact, I just now discovered that both Macecraft Software and F-Secure (http://www.f-secure.com) are headquartered in Finland (Pori and Helsinki, respectively).

Regarding the pending PT2009 edition, I would like to see ScreenTips (1) appear in a box-like format rather than the current 'long, single-line sentence' format and (2) not 'disappear' until the mouse is moved off the icon. I find the present method frustrating because the very helpful ScreenTip disappears before I can finish reading it.

Thank you for your feedback! And your comment about the screen tips is something that I have been thinking a lot as well, the long single-line text boxes are quite bad in my opinion. I'll see if I can do something about that before the launch of PT 2009.

I would just like to say that I tried the new PT2009 version and i am very impressed with the speed of user interface especially

when you removed the analog scale that used a lot of memory but the way you changed the registry cleaner is not so good because is

too big and complicated It`s not smal and readable like the PT2008,you can also try improve the history cleaner to be more faster and with more

options like internet cleaner or something like that.Beside those smaller changes this software is best on the market.

I wish Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all users of this forum and Macecraft Team i hope the new year will be filled with good

software with the upcoming PT2009 :.
