I'm a long time user of jv16pt. I had v468 installed on my XP, Win98SE, and Vista machines with no problem until...
My laptop is an HP laptop running Vista SP1. I don't use it much. About a week ago, I ran Windows Update on it. (I do manual checks, no automated checks). The only update that it needed was the Windows Update software itself, which I allowed it to install. Since then on the Vista machine, v468 takes forever to load. It takes about 3 minutes for the UAC window to come up so that I can "Allow" it to run and then another 2-3 minutes before the main window of jv16pt opens. Once jv16pt has been called and opened and closed in a session, the next time I call it, it opens quickly (normally). If I reboot, though, it's back to the very slow opening again.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling v468 from scratch, but that didn't do any good. The first time I try to open jv16pt, it's slower than molasses in January.
Then I noticed that v472 was available and yesterday I downloaded and installed it.
I installed it over the existing v468 and at the conclusion of the installation where it says "Start jv16pt" when you click Finish, I did so and jv16pt never opened. The machine was locked up. After rebooting, I tried double-clicking on the jv16pt icon and again v472 never opened.
I then tried uninstalling jv16pt and reinstalling v472 from scratch with the same results. Hence, I ended up having to revert back to v468 which at least works after a long time waiting for it to open.
I haven't seen any messages like this here in the forum so I thought I'd post. Is anyone else having problems with jv16pt since the Windows Update updated itself?
Any ideas? If it makes a difference, I'm using the Aero view of Vista.
