jv16 PT 2008 vs. 2007?

Hello all.

I have been using jv16 Powertools for a long time. I am currently still running Powertools 2007 on my PC, though I did purchase the upgrade to Powertools 2008. I did not immediately install the 2008 version because right after its release, like many new releases of applications, it appeared to still have a good number of "wrinkles" to work out.

Though my main desktop computer is only two years old and is actually supposed to be a very "high-end" machine (Falcon-Northwest Mach V, custom built), it has been plagued with problems since the day I received it. So I don't use this machine for beta testing or anything - I'd never be able to determine whether any problems were due to new software or just this machine. (Truly sad, I know!)

So I usually stick with currently installed versions, especially utilities like Powertools which affect the registry so directly, and then go to the upgrade when it's at least as stable as the older builds.

So..... is jv16 Powertools 2008 at least as stable and working at least as well as the last build of jv16 Powertools 2007? (Of course as an upgrade, I hope for it to be even better than the previous!)

The PT2008 Registry Cleaner is ready for prime time - I have experienced absolutely no issues with it and have been extremely impressed by the results. From what I've seen, most of the other tools, too, are functional, but as you will see from various posts in this forum, especially the ones from Tullik that track identified issues and progress in addressing them, there are still quite a few bugs in the suite. As I said, though, Registry Cleaner is the best utility of its kind on the market.

Macecraft just announced that it is now working on PT2009. I suspect that we're going to see few updates to PT2008 between now and the end of the year when PT2009 is scheduled for release because Juoni and the other developers are concentrating only on improving and perfecting the product. PT2008 seems to have been rushed to market too quickly, with little time for quality control. I'm betting PT2009 will not display the same issues.

Yeah, the Registry Cleaner is my most frequently used tool in the package. The others I use sparingly, to be honest. I use another application for my file cleaning - jv16's I have never been quite comfortable using. By default it doesn't get many of the temp files - you have to select the option to clean system folders if you want to clean out the Local Settings User Temp files, and when you do the warnings freak me out a little, I guess. Plus I think it has a few extensions listed by default that I wouldn't want deleted, and a few times in the past I set it all up as I wanted it but the next time I used it it had reverted back to the initial defaults. I just abandoned it and use another cleaner. However I always take another look at it with each major upgrade to see if it has been reworked. Didn't look like it was really updated much so I haven't gotten back to using it.

But the registry cleaner is definitely the best out there, IMO. Likewise, the Registry Monitor and its snapshots that you can compare - I use that regularly also.

Hey Jim,

I forgot about the Registry Monitor - I, too, use that often. And you're right about the junk file cleaner - I prefer CCleaner. And NTREGOPT will always be my registry compactor of choice. Aside from those, though, PT has a lot of neat utilities that I don't use often, but when I need them, I know where they are.

I'm looking forward to PT2009. I hope they nail it with this version and snuff the competition completely!
