I find it hard to complain about a perpetual license that costs $30 with an optional upgrade fee of $6 to $7 every year or two.

I hope a major rewrite is underway. Several of the 30+ items in the open issue list will require major changes to the PowerTools code. In the 2 1/2 years since I joined this forum, jv16 has said as much in various posts regarding bugs and functional deficiencies in certain areas.

Examples that I recall offhand are:

  • Registry Cleaner, Custom Fix (a bug)

    File Finder (functional improvement)

    The GUI engine (…)

It would be nice to know if v.1.8.0.460 is the last planned PT2008 release.

It would also be nice to know what Macecraft plans for the RegSupremes and the PT2009 beta testing.

Just one finding: since quite some time nothing happens anymore to the actual version of jv16 PowerTools 2008 in spite of a lot of remaining reported bugs/issues (just have a look at this Issue status thread). ...

That age report is a little misleading. Several items with an age over 6 months were first reported by someone only a couple of months ago. However, since I can run about 30 versions of the product, I based the age on the release date of the version where the bug first occurred as far as I could tell with after-the-report tests.

In other words, no one reported those bugs until recently. Chances are most users did not even notice them until they were reported.

Sorry, but here's another finding: since several months the developer promises a new installer - soon. Where is it? Do we have to wait for the next version 2009, while the year 2008 is just halfway?

I don't know, but I have the impression something doesn't run as it should at Macecraft Software actually...

Perhaps you are right. The silence has an odor.

I assume "CnUser" belongs to that Edskes clique and he made an account here with the one and only aim: make forbidden publicity for those illegal installers which are NOT new by the way.

Of course we will ask the developer to remove this post from this forum.

Nope, a new version will be released later in this month with new bug fixes.

I had to delete quite many messages from this thread because of being off topic. The topic of this thread is the issue status of version 1.8.0.460. If you wish to discuss for example the number of bug fix releases, please do it here: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3327

The old/current installer is sitll working well, work on replacing it with an improved installer has been done already but implementing a new installer is not a top priority at this moment.

But jv16 has to admit he promised that improved installer:

we will be releasing an official, improved installer package with all the same features as the illegal "alternative" installer in the future.

Absolutely. But at that time I thought the migration to a new installer creation system would be a easy and straighforward, since I have spent some time working on the matter I have realized how much work it takes and I'm now willing to do it at this time because there are more important things to do right now.

OK, thanks for the info :

As to me, it's not very urgent at all, but I'm thinking of all those garbage posts referring to those illegal installers at Edskes

With an own improved installer you could make the whole thing ad Edskes redundant / needless :

Why don't you just take the installers I found?

That shouldn't be much work because they already have the features you're looking for (since you wrote "with all the same features as"), right?

As far as I know, those installers you refer can contain anything from custom made trojans, viruses, backdoors and so on.

And...the website they could be downloaded from is a suspicious one too
