Automation Tool: issues not fixed in 1.8.0.460

The issues in the Automation Tool, reported here, are still NOT fixed in version 1.8.0.460.

Though jv16 introduced those new options explicitely, they never worked at all.

We're hoping jv16 finally will reply at our observations concerning those Automation Tool options, test those issues and fix the bugs in the next release.

I makes no sense having more and new options in the Automation Tool if they don't work at all :

Thanks. I missed that. So it remains an issue with an unknown status ...

BTW, the "updated" Handbook does not mention the features, except (perhaps) in the "Supported command line parameters" table in the Appendix.

However, -CookieManager and -HistoryManager do nothing except bring up the PT main window.

I have executed two tests on the Automation Tool.

Preliminary conditions:

jv16 PowerTools 2008 (8.1.0.460),

Operating system: Windows Vista,

Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0 - Closed.

1 - Automation Tool, Action:

Clear the cache of all detected browsers,

Clear cookies of all detected browsers,

Clear browsing history of all detected browsers.

I start the process with the Run now button.

Results:

No message of the software,

The jv16PT.exe process passes from 0%-3% to 83%-97% of CPU utilization,

The memory used by the jv16PT.exe process progressively increases from 16.800 KB at 210.600 KB (after 6 minutes).

After 6 minutes I close jv16 PowerTools 2008 and the jv16PT.exe process stops.

Verification:

Cache of browser: NOT eliminated,

Cookies of browser: NOT eliminated,

Browsing history of browser: NOT eliminated.

2 - Automation Tool, Action:

Clear the cache of all detected browsers,

Clear cookies of all detected browsers,

Clear browsing history of all detected browsers.

Start type: The task should start... Only when I start it from the Desktop.

I close jv16 PowerTools 2008.

I start the process from the Desktop.

Results:

No message of the software,

The task begins and lasts 11 seconds (icon of jv16 PowerTools on the taskbar),

The memory used by the jv16PT.exe process is 64.200 KB.

Verification:

Cache of browser: Eliminated,

Cookies of browser: Eliminated,

Browsing history of browser: NOT eliminated.

I have repeated the tests 3 times, with the same results.

In definitive:

1 - The 3 functions of the Automation Tool:

Clear the cache of all detected browsers,

Clear cookies of all detected browsers,

Clear browsing history of all detected browsers,

do NOT work when the process is started with the Run now button.

2 - The function of the Automation Tool:

Clear browsing history of all detected browsers,

does NOT work when the process is started by the Desktop.

At last a sign that some part of the new features works -- thank you Anselmo!

As you may have read in Automation tool tests (v.1.8.0.459), many other parts of the Automation tool also do not work.

Very strange, it worked for Anselmo when running from the Desktop, because all my failures happened when running from the Desktop too... :?

I never started the options from within the Automation Tool itself.

I will test again and report here my findings.

This topic, Automation clearing - browsers' cache, cookies, history, shows that cache clearing doesn't work at all. Cookie clearing works for both IE7 and Firefox. History clearing works for Firefox if it is not running, but doesn't work correctly for IE7, running or not. And it seems Opera is not yet supported for any of the three features.

Conclusion: jv16 has still a lot of work to do with the "new features" of the Automation Tool.
