Automation tool tests (v.1.8.0.459) and v.1.8.0.460
There are ten defined actions in the v.1.8.0.459 Automation tool; namely:
1. Delete files from directories...
2. Delete files from directories including their subdirectories...
3. Delete files with the File Cleaner...
4. Run the Registry Cleaner...
5. Flush directories...
6. Clear all history-MRU items with the History Cleaner
7. Clear the cache of all detected browsers
8. Clear cookies of all detected browsers
9. Clear browsing history of all detected browsers
10. Run the Start Menu and Desktop tool in fully automatic mode
Here are some test results for each action:
1. Files in the target directory were not removed
1-added note: in PT2009 RC1, the files were removed, but the task did not terminate -- it had to be killed.
2. Files in the target directory structure were not removed
2-added note: in PT2009 RC1, the files were removed, but the task did not terminate -- it had to be killed.
3. A populated File Cleaner window appeared
4. Set to only scan for MRU items, a blank list resulted; a non-automated run showed 80 MRU items
5. All subdirectories and files in the target directory were deleted; no backup was created
6. A subsequent regular History Cleaner run showed nothing was cleared by the automated task
7. Not tested … is it implemented, or a future objective?
8. Not tested … is it implemented, or a future objective?
9. Not tested … is it implemented, or a future objective?
10. A dismounted network drive shortcut was treated as a broken shortcut, and deleted
The tasks were started from the Desktop. Except for 3, every action had some kind of issue. Perhaps I just don't know how the tool should be used. :?
In the top list:
*** Actions 1, 2, 4, and 6 (in red) do not work
*** Action 5 (in red, bold) works, but creates no backup
*** Actions 7, 8, and 9 need work. See this report: Automation clearing - browsers' cache, cookies, history
Added note: Action 4 seems to have been fixed in some subsequent release of PT2008 ...
