v1.8.0.457 & Win98SE

Just wanted to report that v1.8.0.457 does install and seems to run okay on my Win98SE system with one exception. When closing the program, I get the Illegal Operation window. The program seems to close okay and then the winodw pops up. It is followed by another window with the message:

"Exception EAccess Violation in module jv16pt.exe at xxxxx (memory address). Access violation at xxxxx."

As an aside, I'm one of the users who has problems with previous versions of PowerTools but the problems were always eventually fixed. I'm running the "B" version of Win98SE (v4.10.2222B). FWIW, the "B" version just indicates that I installed the Security CD that MS distributed eons ago.

Right.. Same problem except that there is no BSOD. Clicking on Close (on the Illegal Operation message) and OK on the error location message, Win98SE is just fine.

As others reported, 457 seems to work fine for my purposes (Software Manager and Registry Cleaner) except for closing the program after the work has been completed. Ergo, it's no big problem for me personally.

This is a known problem which I can also reproduce in our Win9x test environments. I think it's still a major improvement over the previous version (which didn't start at all under Windows 98) so that's why the changes were included to the latest released version.

I'm hoping to get the end crash problem solved with Win9x shortly in the future as well, altough it's not a top priority at this time.

I understand and appreciate your efforts. As has been written, pt16 basically works okay in Win98SE. It just doesn't shut down cleanly. No biggie... connie
