Violation of Section 5.2

I just made a terrible mistake by updating to the latest version - the program will not start because "You are violating the license agreement section 5.2. Please close any registry monitoring software (Such as RegMon) and try again. Do notice that many license violations will lead to the termination of your legal rights to this program."

This is new to the program. I have several utility programs installed on my computer and have no idea which may be monitoring the registry.

It is unfair of Macecraft to insert such a provision in its updates without clearly highlighting such a change before downloading and installing this provision.

How do I fix this problem?

Could you take a screenshot of Task Manager showing what processes are running, or in some other way list what programs are running in your computer?

I ran into the same problem and have no idea what to look for. The list of processes is very long. At this point I have a program I cannot use.

I tried to purchase 2 copies of this program today and the website refused to accept the order because I needed to add the owners name. Yet I filled out all sections of the order form. It appears I was fortunate not to be able to complete the purchase. I made several attempts to purchase JV16 without success.

I really would like to solve this issue.

I have now improved the system in a way it will now show more detailed error description what non-allowed program was detected to be running in the background. This improvement will be included to the next released version of PowerTools.

I installed version 2008 and have the same problem with no iddea of what to look for either. A window opens with the following message:

"You are violating the license agreement section 5.2 by running "Registry Monitor" (Window).

Please close the registry monitoring software and try again. Do notice that many license

violations will lead to the termination of your legal right to this program."

This is a real turn-off! I have been using jvtools since version 1.4 and I would never intrentionally "violate" any "license agreement section..." whatever.

My 2007 version works fine however. What is this registry monitor (Window)? And how do i make sure my reputation does not suffer. If my wife or children see something like this in my computer while I am working on it; it does not set a good example.

Please help.

If you would post a list of all processes running on your computer we could perhaps see (or test) which one causes the problem.

The problem occurs when you have a window open with the text "registry monitor" as its caption bar. However, the window in some cases can be some hidden system process that has nothing to do with any registry monitoring software.

So, starting from the next released version, the detection will only analyze visible and open windows, not all as it does now.

Found culprit. This time it was a Nero executable that monitors the registry. I used "Process Explorer" which I downloaded from the following site:

"http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx"

One of the processes that was running belonged to Nero. It is a registry monitor application probably to help start a file of some type.

All i had to do was stop this application and the problem went away. Hope this helps.

Am I supposed to go chasing Process Explorer and/or other tools to then dig through gazillion of processes to find a *possible* culprit?

How long will it take to get a fix? My software is not running and I don't think I am to blame for that -- the latest version just decided to take an attitude.

Could we please have some estimated date by which this will be resolved?

Luckily I read the forum before I updated from 1.7.0.422. Pity I didn't read before I paid though luckily it was only an update.

I shall patiently wait until the problem is fixed as my AV and Anti-spyware programmes both monitor the Registry and I use RegMon and my uninstaller also monitors the Registry before and after install so the 'Violation ....' problem makes the current version totally useless!

The problem will be solved in the next released version, it will be released in this week, most likely in Wednesday or Thursday.

For what it's worth, in v.1.8.0.460:

1. A PowerTools Registry Monitor tool window no longer triggers the "Violation of Section 5.2" pop-up.

2. However, open windows for files such as the following still cause the pop-up to occur when you start PowerTools:

a. This is not a registry monitor.rtf

b. Assigned event duties for the wedding registry monitoring staff.txt

c. ... as does an open windows explorer window on an empty folder named "Registry Monitor"

This problem is now fixed, the next version of PowerTools will include the fix. The fixed version will be released later in this month, hopefully in this week. Thank you for reporting!
