I installed jv16 Power Tools 2008 over jv16 Power Tools 2007. It's in the same directory as before, and there's only one executable, which is for the 2008 version, but now the Windows add/remove applet shows that both 2007 and 2008 are installed.

Is this something that should be dealt with? If so, should I use the add/remove applet to get rid of 2007 or handle it some other way?

I have WinXP SP2.

Thanks.

For PT2007, Inno Setup puts this key (and associated names & data) in the registry:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\jv16 PowerTools_is1

For PT2008, the key is:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\jv16 PowerTools 2008_is1

Simply removing the PT2007 key (with regedit or Registry Finder or whatever) will make PT2007 drop from the Add/Remove programs applet. This way, your current situation with the PT2008 data, settings and so forth remains intact and you don't have uninstall/reinstall anything ...

Whatever shortcuts you have for PT2007 and PT2008 from the two installs (for example in the Start Menu, Quick Launch, etc.), actually point to PT2008 stuff (based on your post), so you can either delete the PT2007 shortcuts manually, or use them, or ignore them.

Deleting the registry key did it. No longer in the add/remove applet and jv16 works fine.

Thanks for all the replies.
