Registry Finder bug
Using the following settings in v 1.7.0.416 finds the registry hive entries:
With the same settings, PT2008 beta1 no longer finds the registry hive entries.
Note: The bug was apparently introduced in PT2007 v 1.7.0.422. It doesn't find the entries either.

Registry Cleaner - Custom fix bug
Some "file does not exist" error types are handled incorrectly by the "Fix manually …" feature.
The screenshot shows the situation.
When you click OK, the bug does the following:

Registry Finder -- search is too slow
Settings used:
With PT2007 (v 1.7.0.422), the search took just over two minutes.
With PT2008 beta1 (v 1.8.0.433), the search took considerably longer (about six times as long).
With PT2008 RC1 (v 1.8.0.441), the search still took about six times as long.
In this clickable graph, the PT2007 run is on the left; part of the PT2008 run is on the right:

Problem: Hair trigger windows (
http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=11465#11465)
Reported by: tullik
Status: Confirmed. However, this bug can only be fixed by totally removing the custom skin engine of the Window itself. Based on user feedback, we have decided to do this and thus bring back the standard window caption bars to PowerTools but I cannot at this stage say when this will be done. Maybe for PT 2008 before the final version, maybe after the final release. ...
Definitely a major undertaking! When you get to it, perhaps you can also devise a way for a window's message box to minimize/restore along with the window.
Incidentally, besides the major distractions (unsolicited window maximization, unsolicited launch of tasks), the skin has some minor ones. For example, very often the first left click on a check box is lost and one has to click it again. After the first click, subsequent clicks in the window behave normally.

File Recovery tool observations
3. When I first scanned C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\, only file In.lnk showed on the list -- that file already exists on the Desktop.
In.lnk lists as a 0% condition file. After restoring it, it still appears on the list when I rescan. I don't know if this is a bug or some artifact in my file system.
4. I created several rtf files on the Desktop, placed copies in a desktop subfolder, then permanently deleted the files. When I ran the tool several times, what it listed was inconsistent.
Ignore this. I guess the inconsistency is probably due to the freed space being overwritten entirely by something else ...

Main window context menu
There is no longer a context menu when you right click a neutral area in the body of the main window.
This is true for all three of the main window tool show options.

Residual list window smudge
Sometimes, the rolling counters in the upper right corner are not completely cleared when a scan completes. See below.

Dragging, resizing, or restoring the window clears the smudge.

Registry Cleaner - minor string truncation
The path is truncated in a specific "Error description" as shown in the screenshot thumbnail.
Apparently there's a bug in extracting the string when the ending part of the folder name contains dots …

List filters -- too limited
The filter is case sensitive -- will this be changed?
Only the leftmost list column is filtered -- will the filter be extended to look at other columns?
Some examples of "too limited":
- Software Manager -- one cannot filter on "Software" name
Software Manager -- with the Age System enabled, the filter choices are only "Old" or "New"
File utilities -- one cannot filter on "File" name, only on "Directory" path
Registry Cleaner -- one can only filter on "Error severity"
List filter input box -- delete key misinterpreted
When using the delete key to edit text in the filter box, the program acts like the "Clear" button has been clicked. This message occurs:
Much better in beta 2:
- 1. Filter now operates across all list columns.
2. Filter is (for the most part) case insensitive.
Remaining problems:
- 1. The first column filtering is still case sensitive.
2. One still can't use the delete key to edit the filter box text.
