The long development of jv16 PowerTools 2008 is coming to a finish, here is the very first beta version:

http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/jv16pt2008_setup_beta1.exe

(If the link doesn't work it means the testing for this version has already ended)

Do not install this beta version over any existing version but to a new directory. Also, do not uninstall any previous versions of jv16 PowerTools before the installation of this version - this version is a beta version. Beta version means the new product version is not yet finished and is only released for testing purposes in order to find the last remaining problems.

Do not start to translate this version to your language yet, there will be more changes to the language interface.

The new version will be a free update for all customers who have purchased jv16 PowerTools after or on 1st of October 2007, for customers who have purchased jv16 PowerTools before the 1st of October 2007 the upgrade price for the 2008 version is only $6.95 which includes three months of free technical support.

So, what's new with PT 2008?

* Highly improved Registry Cleaner

* Fully rewritten and supercharged Startup Manager

* New tool: File Recovery (not yet available in this beta version, though)

* New main window user interface to answer the results of our User Surveys

* Improved general stability and performance

As always, all beta testers who give us valuable feedback such as good quality bug reports will be given a free personal license for the product when then final product version is released. To be clear, simply downloading the beta version and saying "it works fine" or "it doesn't work" doesn't entitle for a free license.

First of all, hello again :).

Second.

This new versions GUI is very nice, normaly i don't realy like all the eye-candy, but it is used well.

It seems to work very well under Vista 64Bit now. (Although i my self am going to leave Windows beheind as daily usage).

It has some few buggy's with statup-manager.

Havent looked very good to the new version totaly.

I certainly think the new look of 2008 is a vast improvement over the older versions of Powertools. I also want to let someone know that the PC health check, may be needed, but, at what cost to the user's PC resources. I let it check my XP Home, AMD, 512MB memory system, and it took a long time for the completion of the check. When it gave me, my results, it said, I scored 100 out of 100 for both PC health and Registry health. Then it went on to advise me to make some changes to improve that score. What score is better than 100 out of a 100. I believe that PC Health Check may be an asset, to some users, but, it needs some additional work to make it feasible for the users who have more advance skills.

A quick word to the developer. I download 2008 and use it for the first time, just today. Apparently, when doing a registry scan, it found a number of errors, concerning Turbo Tax, that it recommended, to delete. If anyone using Turbo Tax does so, they may find out their current version of Turbo Tax is not going to have access to some of its updates.

hello jouni....

as an old user and beta tester, this version looks amazing.

just installed it.

didn't play with it too much...

i will post backs during the next few days.

great job !

ps : first thing, after install the a shortcut appears to buy the software. i think older versions searched for license in the setup process, but, maybe if a license is installed, and the shortcut is there it could be autodeleted ?

You are correct, the quick system health test isn't all that "quick" with the first beta version, this will be addressed ASAP. The system hasn't been properly calibrated yet either, so the results might not yet very well represent the health of the system.

What registry cleaner settings did you use? Could you send the backup file created by the program so I could pinpoint which items cause the problem?

I am running Vista Ultimate 32 with the current beta build of SP1

I downloaded and installed this jv16 Power Tools 2008 beta1 successfully, but have some comments

1. The installer offers to install in the existing jv16 Power Tools 2007 folder, and put the shortcut menu items in the shortcut menu for 2007.

2. When starting the program (as offered at the end of installation) 5 message boxes appeared

2a. MainForm TrEndTimerTimer AntiCrack-1 triggered!

2b. Debug messag, code: tt0-0

2c. xForms AntiCrack-2 triggered!

2d. NillForm FormShow AntiCrack-1 triggered!

2e. License ToolForm CloseBtnClick AntiCrack-1 triggered!

Cache appeared to set up correctly

I ran the analysis - 93 out of 100

I haven't used any of the tools yet.

Shut down the program using the "x" in the top RH corner, window closed, but 40 minutes later jv16PT.exe was still running and using 49 - 50 of the CPU and 12MB memory (Task Manager). This usage remained fairly constant over the half hour I monitored it. Task Manager killed the program successfully

Hi,

Installed Beta 1 yesterday. Found the following error: On ther welcome to jv16 PowerTools! screen, it says:

"Here are a few tips to help you to get started" The second "to" should be removed.

When I shut PT down, it crashed with the usual message. I have the error message and report but I don't remember how to attach them for you to see.

Like the new look.

Here is a screen shot of it and when looking at it more it does it when the comment writing and age system is turned on.Power tools 2008.jpg

Do not see menus and the top. Are the menus there or is that how it is going to look like?

The registry cleaner breaks Free Download Manager and I have to reinstall it every time. I have aggressive marked and on the engine settings: Emphasize the number of found errors and speed of the registry cleaner engine over safety and accuracy. Do have list MRU and other history checked too. In Power Tools 2007 have aggressive marked. This the only program that seems to break. Here is the file that you wanted. Hope this helps.

Hope the file was sent. If I did not do it right can you tell me how to do it so you get it. Thanks.

A few interface issues... running Win XP Home SP2.

1) Live Support dialogue window.

Press F3. The Live Support window appears. Status is (unknown). I guess it should be "Online" or "Offline". Also, I miss a "Cancel" button to close the window. Just after this window appears, I see a totally irrelevant window of asking if I want to do a PC health analysis (see #2).

2) Live Support icon behavior.

This screenshot is also related to the previous. Click on the Live Support icon on the main window. I see the window asking if I want to do a PC health analysis. I guess we should see the window above.

3) No language menu on main window.

Perhaps this is coming...?

4) PC health analysis progress indicator.

When I ran the PC health analysis at startup, there was a text saying that the analysis will take a few moments... as reported elsewhere, the analysis is rather slow. However, perhaps there should be a progress indicator? First, I thought that it simply hung up.

Software Manager

It seems that an anomaly with custom uninstalling, reported earlier at http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2725 , is still live and kicking :

And thanks to Jan for the comment on languages, I did not check the lang files... :
