Hello all,

What is the simplest method to clean all temporary internetfiles in Vista with the filecleaner?

And eventually list them before deleting?

Because in Vista these file are "hidden" I don't know how it should be done in the filecleaner.

I know there is a possibility in the Internet-Explorer itself. But I want it do to as a normal filecleaner-job.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,

Already found myself. Problem solved.

Hi,

To find out how this could be done, you need the directories where several temporary files are located.

Although I'm Dutch I have a Vista with a German layout and therefore some buttons could be named somewhat different.

1. Go in the internet-explorer to then . You will see two buttons at the browser-history: and : press . Then you will see three buttons /

  • and
  • with directly above the directory where the temporary internetfiles are residing. Take note of this directory.

You could delete them there, but I find this should also be done in jvPowerTools.

On my laptop it is something like C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Local\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\...

There is the index.dat file with several subdirectories which all can be deleted.

By the way, certain history-files are in equal directories as above, but change "Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\" in "History\History.IE5\"...

    2. Use these directories in the Automation Tool or One-Click Cleaner. The FileCleaner should also work, but for reasons I don't understand it doesn't delete these files always. Furthermore, the files are not listed before deletion, so be aware!

    3. Normally, "strolling" through the directories you can go until the Temp directory. After that some directories (especially named above) are "hidden". But if you use these directories in the windows-explorer (with copy and paste in the directory-textbox above) they can be seen.

A very useful tool was CrapCleaner (CCleaner/freeware), which (after analysing) lists every temporary file with it's directory. But, as stated above, this should be an "menu-driven" option in our PowerTools! You can see the different subdirectories which are related to all the internet-sites you have visited.

Also for deletion are the MRU files; the recently used-files. On my laptop C:\Users\Acer\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\...

Hopefully this is clear. If there are questions left please let me know.

    Kind regards,

BTW (In Dutch: zag dat je in Belgie woont. Dank voor de vertalingen van dit programma en hopelijk heb je wat aan mijn verhaal. Gegroet uit het Beierse Woud! : )

  • I already HAD done the trick BEFORE in 1Click Cleaner :

Was just curious to know how YOU fixed it (because first of all you asked for support) :

As to the Dutch translation: I will continue translating the programs and the handbooks.

Yet I will not start the translation of the PT 2007 handbook now, because the PowerTools 2008 are arriving with new tools, etc.

Nevertheless, I find that deleting this files should be more "userfriendly" to use in jvPowerTools then it is today.

Perhaps in the next version?? (after2008)

Somewhat more like CCleaner would be welcome..
