Hello, I'm new to this forum but I have been a long time user and would first like to thank you all for creating this excellent tool.

I am however, experiencing problems with the new version. It stops responding about half way through scans. I've spent the last 2 hours trying all the advice here and following the tips and even trying it in safe mode still hangs.

I am using Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Thank you

Have you tried to run different scans? Can you test what scan module causes the freeze?

I've run normal scan it goes to point where it says 6 threads running then I get the message that the program is not responding. Same thing if I try an agressive scan. The only modules that it hangs on are the RegCleaner and the Reg Compactor. I tried reinstalling But that didn't solve the problem.

Registry Cleaner

Sounds like the problem described here, but, with my Vista Business, it breaks free after the short wait (< 20 seconds) ...

Registry Compactor

That's normal for this tool. Try selecting just a small hive or two (first uncheck the reboot option) -- compaction of those shouldn't take very long. Then you can recheck the option and do the rest (be prepared to wait a while …).

Hello,

I would like to add my experience with the latest version of RSP to this thread. Firstly, though, I thank the team at Macecraft for making the latest version of RegSupreme Pro available to all. A long-time user of RSP, I was happy with version 1.4 but the opportunity to download and use version 1.7.0.409 on a previous licence is more than anyone could ask for. Thank you, once again, for excellent service and value for money!

This said, I would like to bring to your attention an issue I have with version 1.7. I installed it on Windows XP Home (fully updated), on an AMD 3500+ processor, 1 GB of RAM and retain Administrator privileges.

When I ran it in normal mode it showed up a few errors in my registry. However, when I ran it in aggressive mode, it showed about 344. These values are found under Adobe and listed as @ - nothing more. The software also informs me that my system health is about 80%. I clicked on Select --> All --> Fix.

When it starts to clean the registry, however, I get an "Internal Error RCRF-FI-1" message four times, after which it runs without any further problem.

When I tried to shut down the computer for the first time after running RSP 1.7, it would not shut down, instead asking me to close all running programs (Microsoft Outlook) though none were open. This problem, however, has not recurred since then. On the other hand, the same 344 entries are still showing up when I run the software.

Please let me know if these 344 values may indeed be deleted, if I am doing something wrong or if I need to take a different approach. In the interim, please accept my thanks for making this software available.

Regards,

Lane

There is a bug in the software which causes the Fix button not to work properly (i.e. not to do anything) on certain systems. We are currently fixing the issue and a fixed version should be released very soon.

so the "Internal Error RCRF-FI-1" message will be fixet ?

I get the message "Internal Error RCRF-FI-1 - Fixing cancelled, no changed made" when i run "agressive mode" (when "MRU/history data scan" is selected.)

but i only get it in the first scan, if i scan igain i dont get the error. And the errors in my registry do actuelly get fixed. It finds about 320 errors in first scan, and only (i think it was) 4 in the second scan..

And if i restore the Registry errors i did fix, i get the "Internal Error RCRF-FI-1" igain..

Hello JV16,

Thank you for the prompt response. It is greatly appreciated. I look forward to the "fixed" version.

Hello again,

I downloaded the updated version of RegSupreme Pro (1.7.0.414) and installed it over my previous version (1.7.0.409). I am running Windows XP (Home) fully updated on a system with 1GB of RAM.

When I ran the updated version this morning it detected 374 errors in aggressive mode. When it was done, I clicked on Select --> All --> Fix. Since I view it in "JV16 PT2006" format I see the list of errors highlighted in blue growing shorter before disappearing altogether.

However, as before (please see my post above), when I re-run RSP I find the same 374 errors listed. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. If necessary I can copy my registry and send it to you for analysis or replication.

In the interim, please allow me to thank you, once again, for making the product available to previous licence holders. It is greatly appreciated.

Please use the Right Click menu and export some of those items as .reg file and then post the contents of the .reg file here, or send directly to me via Private Message.

Hello JV16,

Thank you for your reply; I appreciate it.

May I ask you or anyone else to tell me just how I may attach a file to a PM? :

Thank you,

Lane

(From PM) ... Your reply was a great help. I did as you requested and ran RSPro until all I had was recurring "errors". I next selected "All" and tried to export the 412 errors but I got a message, a portion of which I reproduce below:

* * * START OF ERROR MESSAGES * * *

: Failed to backup "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\MediaBrowser\MRU\Photoshop\FileList\2007-05-26T00.7501Z : @"!

: Failed to backup "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\MediaBrowser\MRU\Photoshop\FileList\2007-05-26T00.9843Z : @"!

: Failed to backup "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\MediaBrowser\MRU\Photoshop\FileList\2007-05-26T01.8121Z : @"!

* * * END OF PART OF ERROR MESSAGES * * *

Please note this is only a very small part of the 412 "error messages". It now appears that I cannot export the .reg file. Does any of this make sense? I must say that my computer system is running as normal; I am pursuing this matter only because I would like to know what is happening between the registry and RSPro. ...

@ jv16: by pure luck, I was able to reproduce this "Failed to backup" message while exporting, with this key:

  • HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2736614755-4186107725-1336004102-1010\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Open Find\Microsoft Office Word\Settings\Save As\File Name MRU

    The actual message was: : Failed to backup "Valuation Statement.doc : Value"!

    The .reg file was empty (contained headers only)

    Apparently there is a bug in the registry scanning engine involving the REG_MULTI_SZ data type

    This happened with the raw list format -- with the structured list format, the export took place without incident

    In case something else is involved as well, member laneseda will check one of the …\Adobe\MediaBrowser\MRU\Photoshop\... keys with RegEdit and post findings in this thread ...

Details from RC raw list caption area:

  • * Error severity: Low

    * Key: HKUS\S-1-5-21-…abbreviated...\Soft\MSoft\Office\11.0\Common\Open Find\Microsoft Office Word\Settings\Save As\File Name MRU\

    * Entry's name: Value

    * Value: Close-13-1.doc

    * Error description: Norway injury.doc

    * Entry last modified: Maples-close.doc

Data in entry name "Value" with REG_MULTI_SZ data type (per RegEdit):

  • Close-13-1.doc

    Norway injury.doc

    Maples-close.doc

    Valuation Statement.doc

Note: When you Delete (or Fix) the line, it drops from the list, produces no backup, and one of the messages below shows -- there is no error message, and the item shows again when you rescan.

  • : All done! 0 B of data was removed (0 registry entries and 0 keys).

    : The registry fixing procedure is now complete. It was possible to correct 0 items out of 1, 1 items had to be removed in order to fix the problems. You can undo all the changes from the backups.

    This happened with the raw list format -- with the structured list format, the Delete or Fix took place without incident. Backups occurred OK, messages were OK, and the items did not show in a rescan.

Hello,

I would like to add to tullik's post above, if I may.

Using the information he kindly gave me, I ran RegSupreme Pro until all I had was recurring errors. (There are now 415 rather than 412.). I then made the following observations:

In normal mode: 0 registry errors (0 keys and 0 entries), 3 keys and 0 entries of leftover data, 0 keys and 0 entries of unneeded data (system health indicator: 98/100)

In aggressive mode: 0 registry errors (0 keys and 0 entries), 3 keys and 0 entries of leftover data, 0 keys and 415 entries of unneeded data (system health indicator: 78/100)

I navigated to the first “error” listing: HKCU\Software\Adobe\MediaBrowser\MRU\Photoshop\FileList\2007-05-26T00.7501Z

The values under the headings “Name”, “Type”, and “Data” are respectively “Default”, “REG_SZ”, and “Value not set”. However, when I run RegSupreme Pro, each of these errors is given the value @.

These values obtain for each of the 412 “errors”.

I trust this information is of help. Before I finish this post, I would like to thank tullik for his able help and patience with an utter novice.

Lane

@ laneseda,

I just noticed that member bertjamin reported the the exact same problem you are having. He came up with a successful workaround using an earlier version of jv16 PowerTools 2007.

Since you have RegSupreme Pro, you will have to wait for a fix. However, jv16 has said elsewhere that he plans to issue fixed versions of all products soon:

  • http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=11576#11576

    http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=11574#11574

Thank you for that, tullik. I'll wait for the fixed version of RSP.

Lane

From PM, to laneseda … Thank you for using regedit to confirm those Adobe Photoshop MRU items are just simple empty keys. I copied and pasted eleven keys from your prior PM and posts and loaded them into my Vista registry.

It is definitely a Registry Cleaner bug. Just as you and member bertjamin reported, the keys drop from the list when you click delete, but are still in the registry as proven by a rescan.

Interestingly, the items also show in the PT2007 History Cleaner tool (v 1.7.0.413). However, they can be successfully removed with that tool.

IMO, Adobe should be ashamed using the registry in this fashion. They could easily have kept their application activity file list in a log file.

I have the same trouble. I detected my problem happens when reg cleaner scan only HKLM keys. thank for suggestions PEDRO982
