The following bugs are now fixed, the next released version contains fixes to these problems:

* History Cleaner, unadvised backup (Vista only)

* PowerTools 2007, does not run in Limited Accounts (added warning message)

* Settings Tool and Message Box, restart message too fast to see

Most likely fixed:

* Registry Cleaner, shows "Obsolete software entry" for apps running well ...

* Registry Cleaner, column resizing improvements (or memory) much desired

FYI: the version 1.7.0.404 is now released and can be downloaded from the Downloads page.

The program should also now work better with Windows 98.

Avast! says the new jv16PT.exe is infected with "Win32-018(Trj)"

I will assume that is a false positive and proceed ...

Have to stop "on access protection" ....

When you choose to use just one language, the other .lng files are removed OK, but the corresponding .ico files are not removed ...

The status bar in the File Finder results window has nothing in it ...

File Finder apparently writes an empty Columns.dat, wiping out the good stuff put there when you run Registry Cleaner ...

I can't tell (yet) what Registry Finder did -- Columns.dat was still empty after I ran it ...

Added:

I don't know what caused Columns.dat to be empty -- but I couldn't recreate it. RC, RF, and FF are now recording their column settings in that file.

I had an incident where the Registry Cleaner Scan Report window would not close -- I had to close PT on the task bar ...

Install Issues

When I installed this (.404) over the previous version as I usually do (to preserve my settings and backups), and it started, I was told I had "Pirated Software" on my computer and a dialogue with my license info opened. My current License.xbin (my first one) wasn't accepted.

I then uninstalled jv16PT and moved the License.xbin to another drive and folder, then I reinstalled jv16PT and before it started I moved License.xbin back to the program folder. All is now OK.

I don't see why a valid license and/or installation should be detected as "Pirated Software". This is a bit startling so perhaps this "feature" should be perfected a bit so as not to cause coronaries. :

Also, with all of the "updates" this program requires, it should be possible to "install over" a previous installation without being given grief over doing so. It can be a bit of a pain when you lose your settings and backups.

BTW - I can happily report that the columns in the Registry Cleaner are now saved!!! Hallelujah!!

Reg Cleaner Columns Width

The widths are saved, but I can't figure out exactly where in the columns.dat file they are being saved.

I deleted columns.dat >> started jv16PT >> Started RegCleaner >>Ran a scan >> closed RegCleaner

A columns.dat file was created but where is the data for Reg Cleaner columns? What's confusing is that when I change the columns in RegCleaner none of these numbers are changing . . .

The Backup Tool seems to have lost its ability to do restores -- I had to use v.1.7.0.403 to do it ...

Added 2007-07-28 -- there is also a problem with Remove:

*** Selected 4 lines in the File backups tab and clicked Remove

*** there was no confirmation dialog

*** the 4 selected backups were removed, but the 4 lines remained highlighted on the list until the list was refreshed (f5)

I get the same thing and I am not going to stop on access protection. If I ignore it, Avast will not permit the execution of the program. Where Can I download the older version at?
