Hey,

well this really didn't enter my mind before the release of the new GUI which for me is bad.

Why not use the standard skinning from Windows?

With custom skinning using WindowBlinds, Uxtheme etc. being popular

why not have Jv16 PowerTools take its look from Windows?

Best regards,

Neksus

A new GUI was added simply because it was very requested improvement. To be honest, I personally don't that much like too graphical user interfaces, especially if they mean huge memory usage or installation file size.

But I found a skin engine that a) is fast, b) doesn't waste memory and c) doesn't much increase the size of the program, so I gave in and here we are.

In order to make sure this was the right call, we will have an open user survey on this matter to ask our users what they think of the new GUI. If over 50% say the old was better then we go back, no questions asked.

Sorry to contradict both find the new GUI very smart and appealing ; the former was sober , a litlle too sad ! I know that JVPT is no nonsense software but this does not mean to dive into a monastery . Best regards

I agree with TCHAPAIEV ...

I realize "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

But, aside from the appearance issue, the current implementation has many useful features in the GUI that were not there in the former one ...

I dont like this skin too.

I accept only old style, classic windows for all application on my computer.

We are planning to release PT 2008 on January 2008. The beta versions will be available before that, of course.

ok, thanks for your quick reply.

I wait for new beta now :

I've only just seen this thread. I'm also unhappy with the new GUI. I use WindowBlinds to skin everything, so special skins for individual applications aren't helpful from my point of view. I would like to second the request for an option to disable the skin, please (many other applications have this).

I'm sorry that I was not around when the users started complaining about the "outdated look" of v2006.

I could have told them that this apparent weakness is in fact one of it's strong points: a GUI with standard windows widgets can be skinned to your heart's content!

The two main reasons why I liked JV16 were solid registry tool engines and the flexible UI ranging from command line operability, through maintaining a degree of tool independence, to very good "skinability".

JV16 is like an auto shop where you could get a great motor and chassis that you'd then take somewhere else for body work and a paint job, and now although it still sells good under-the-hood you cannot "pimp" it any more. A shame! :

Macecraft, you are very good mechanics but lousy painters!
