Settings Tool and Message Box (Vista)

When I called the Settings Tool, viewed various settings tabs, changed nothing, then clicked OK, this happened:

  • 1. The Settings Tool window went away (expected)

    2. A message box appeared below the former Settings Tool window position (not expected)

    3. This message appeared in the message box: "Please restart jv16 PowerTools for the changes to take effect" (not expected)

    4. The message box went away (not expected)

    5. The same thing happened if I actually changed the Settings directory location in the "Installation" tab (not expected)

All this happened in a flash -- I only noticed it when running PT from a USB flash drive. If it happens running from an internal hard drive, it's too fast to see.

Are we supposed to see this message? I think that is normal for PT2005. And PT2006? -- I forget ...

If so, this particular message should probably be a "Normal windows dialog" instead of a message box …

I changed the messaging setting to "Normal windows dialog" and the message then requires an OK acknowledgement. That means there are two bugs here:

  • 1. As described above, the too fast situation when using message windows

    2. In PT2005/PT2006, the message only occurs (if I remember correctly) when you actually change the Settings directory location
