I downloaded and installed 2007. And it won't start.

I tried uninstalling and starting over, but same thing happened.

I've used previous versions without incident.

What might be causing this, and how can I fix it?

Regards,

Chuck Billow

I am running windows Vista (Ultimate). The program installs but will not start. An icon starts for about 5 seconds and then dis-appears.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are these eight files in the install directory?

  • C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\data.xbin

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\data2.xbin

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\data3.xbin

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\jv16PT.exe

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\License.xbin

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\MainSettings.dat

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\unins000.dat

    C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007\unins000.exe

Tullik,

Thank you for your quick reply. I have all of those files except the license.bin file.

Some systems, where a trial version of jv16 PowerTools 2xxx has previously been installed, experience your symptoms. Sometimes, there is even a message saying you need a valid license.

Others do not, but get a new, full 30 day trial. For example, I installed to a new directory without my license.xbin in it, and it says I have 29 days left for the trial.

The difference may be a bug in the license/trial checking logic, or maybe it's intentional -- I don't know.

Perhaps jv16 can answer ...

Thanks for your time Tullik. The beta reviews were only average for the 2007 version anyway. It all sounds too hard. I might try to find something else for Vista. It's the biggest drawback with this operating system-trying to get compatable software.

The PT2007 betas worked real well on my Vista Business system (as betas go), but I do have a license ... : 8)

IMO, jv16 has responded very quickly to address many Vista "anomalies," and even says it will run on win98! :

If it installs correctly and works, i'll buy a license. Perhaps several iterations in the future it will work.

Thanks mate.

Did you try installing jv16 2007 by running the installer as "run as administator"? It's working quite well on my Vista Premium but I too am licensed.

Well, I tried several installs , after totally unistalling, cleaning the registry etc., and still it does teh same... looks like it's loading, but "disappears", never to actually load.

I just went back to 2006, which installed without incident (again).

I had disappearing problem with jv16 2007 as well. After trying several times it finally started. Once I installed my license it starts every time with no problem. As mentioned above, seems to be a license issue . . . .

I'm running XP Home SP2. On my daughter's PC it installed without a hitch. On both computers I uninstalled 2006 before installing 2007 and then searched for license, which it found.

a month later

I was running Vista Home Premium and had the same problem with the program not starting. I disabled the UAC and set everything to run as administrator and still no luck. I think the problem has to do with the different versions of Vista- I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and the program started immediately and worked like a charm. Hope this helps.
