jv16 PowerTools 2007 RC3 is now released, you can download it from:

http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/jv16pt_setup_2007_RC3.exe

(if the link doesn't work, it means the beta testing for this version has already ended)

Warning

Do not install this program over any previous version of jv16 PowerTools, always install beta and RC versions to a new directory. This product version is not an official release, it will contain bugs and can cause harm to your computer. Do not download or install this program unless you are willing to take the risk and understand what beta testing means.

On Beta Testing

All beta testers who submit valuable feedback, such as bug reports, performance reports, improvement ideas etc, will receive a free personal license for the product after it has been officially released. Simply installing and testing the application doesn't mean that you would automatically receive a free license, free licenses are issued only to those who submit valuable feedback.

* This version does run under Windows 98, 98 SE and ME.

Nice icons! : Makes the whole interface look better!

Registry Cleaner - ding on clicking result- Raw List, Vista Home Premium

When I maximize or enlarge the results window, or resize the column widths, and click or right-click on any of the found problems, it causes a ding sound to play. This only happens after the window size or column widths have been changed from the original.

This probably happens with all of the tools that have such a results window.

Wooow, the graphics are nice - this design gives a real "summer touch" to your excellent programm.

RC 3 does not work with 98 98SE and ME. Will the final 2007 work with 98 98SE and ME?

Why doesn't it work? Does it show an error message? Yes, the final version also works with Win9x.

Duplicate File Finder (Vista)

When you abort the operation, then click Start on the tool window, the tool appears to run (messages in message box).

But the results window is empty.

Workaround: exit the tool before you start it again.

Sorry, my fault. Read your release notes too quickly and thought you said RC 3 would not run on 98 98SE and ME.

New Icons - Main Program Icon

I just noticed a minor problem with the new icons in Vista. The UAC shield, that Vista puts on some program icons, covers the little gear thing in front of the monitor in the Main Program Icon. This makes it look sort of like the Explorer icon.

This is Vista's fault more than anything else. lol

It is a little irritating, but if you put the PT shortcut in "Quick Launch" the UAC shield does not show.

I don't understand what you mean. When I install PT2007 RC3, its Settings directory contains HistoryCleaner.xdat, and the History/MRU Cleaner seems to work as intended.

What do you manually put in the Settings folder?

Registry Cleaner, structured list, select and contect menu (Vista)

The context menu in the structured list is better, but still does not work quite right.

Observations:

1. When the scan completes, the context menu anywhere on the list is fully populated, although no list elements are highlighted.

2. Do Select > None -- context menu now shows only "Select" which I think is what is intended …

3. Choosing "Select" highlights some list elements, and the context menu is fully populated, which I think is what is intended …

4. If you then choose "Select," the context menu now shows only "Select" -- it takes a lot of clicking around to get the context menu back -- sometimes you have to do Select > All to get it back …

New graphics are nice but had real problems to get it to work. I uninstalled RC2 as indicated and then installed RC3 only the program would not start. I tried restarting the computer. I uninstalled RC3 and then installed it again, but it still would not start.

Each time I tried opening PowerTools I could never get beyond Okaying the administrative rights in Vista, then nothing. One would think you would at least get a screen saying my trial period was up or giving the option to buy or locate the license, but nothing, ... until I pasted the license into the RC3 folder, then the program suddenly started to work.

1) I have NOT received the newsletter introducing the new RC3 of jv16PT2007: what's wrong? However I'm on the list!

2) There are still some issues in the RC3 language file:

2.1) In Registry Cleaner's results window > Select >"Higlighted" is NOT translated. I have found translated occurences of the word "Highlighted" in the English language file under >

.Select1,but no occurence of the word under > RegCleanerResultsForm.Select1. Is that the cause?

Can you please examine and fix it?

2.2) In Registry Find & Replace : the message "Analyzing the registry, this will take a while. Please wait." and the button "Abort" are NOT translated.

Very nice icons, much improved.

One problem I'm finding with the Registry Cleaner is that it keeps going to the window down from maximised when it is running. ie I have the JV16 console open then start Registry Cleaner, while this is running I maximise the window, this window then suddenly switches back to the smaller size.

jv overrides full screen in order to show the message box.

To see "almost full screen," I resize the window so it occupies all of the screen except at the bottom where I leave room for the message box. PT remembers your resizing ...

It would be a nice enhancement if the "Advanced options" tab had an "Almost full screen" checkbox so one could make it happen automatically ...

Perhaps this feature would be useful, as an option, for some other list generating tools as well …
