Upgrade Pricing

Hi there. I am currently a registered licensee of RegSupreme Pro 1.4. I am thinking about upgrading to jv16 PT 2006, and have a question. The full price for jv16 PT 2006 is $29.95 and the full price for RegSupreme Pro 1.4 is $18.95 - a difference of $13.00....Yet the upgrade price is $18.95! Does that seem unfair to anyone else?

In a recent chat, the rep tried to justify the price by telling me that I can continue to use RegSupreme Pro, but that's ridiculous. RegSupreme Pro is a subset of the full jv Power Tools - if I have Power Tools I don't need RegSupreme Pro.

Then the rep tried this: "When you have upgraded to jv16 PT2006 you will get the upgrade for jv16 PT2007 for free" But that would be equally true if I had purchased PT 2006 right from the beginning - it's not some bonus that I get for upgrading RegSupreme Pro.

Sure it's only 6 bucks, but every other outfit I've dealt with in the past charges nothing more than the difference in price to upgrade its products. Why is Macecraft different?

I think you are correct about that.

It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I remember the 'time bomb' in the original Power Tools that the author 'forgot' to mention. The asking price at the time was small, but people hated the tactic. It's the same way now: The price difference is small, but it's a slimey way to get an extra 6 bucks out of your customers.

It didn't help that the support rep slung BS at me either.

Truth is, I've paid more money to even slimier software companies, but at least they were upfront about their charges.

The prices are there. You have made your value versus price decision. The so-called "upgrade" price might even change if there are few buyers at the posted price …

I believe it is a perpetual license. Could be a long wait … who knows. Even if the product were someday to be discontinued, you could continue to use the last version you got.
