jv16 PowerTools 2007 RC2 is now released, you can download it from:

http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/jv16pt_setup_2007_RC2.exe

(if the link doesn't work, it means the beta testing for this version has already ended)

Warning

Do not install this program over any previous version of jv16 PowerTools, always install beta and RC versions to a new directory. This product version is not an official release, it will contain bugs and can cause harm to your computer. Do not download or install this program unless you are willing to take the risk and understand what beta testing means.

On Beta Testing

All beta testers who submit valuable feedback, such as bug reports, performance reports, improvement ideas etc, will receive a free personal license for the product after it has been officially released. Simply installing and testing the application doesn't mean that you would automatically receive a free license, free licenses are issued only to those who submit valuable feedback.

General Release Notes

* You can now start to translate the English.lng, please send all translations to: files@macecraft.com

* This version still lacks the new set of icons.

* This version does not run under any Win9x system, such as Windows 95, 98, 98 SE nor ME. The program doesn't start due to a missing NT-only DLL file.

* This version does not contain the Disk Defragmenter as it doesn't yet perform as well as it should, it will be included to the product with later update.

* This version contains the new registry cleaner engine and new user interface for the Registry Cleaner, please be careful with it! The new registry cleaner engine can show false positives, be careful!

Please notice that not all bugs reported to the RC1 thread are yet fixed. There is no need to repost them yet, I'm still in the process of going through the RC1 thread and report here of the bugs fixed.

However, the license missing bug should now be fixed, as well as the bug which made impossible to remove anything with the Registry Cleaner (and some other tools as well).

here we go again with the same errors as in RC 1,

I was able to test beta 1 untill beta 5 with the same license i got when i tested BETA 1-suddenly it is not possible no more to test with the same license,does this mean i have to buy a complete new license,i thought we could use the same license from beta 1 untill the final release of the product.

JV16 any comments on these issues?

i uninstalled RC1 thinking it whould be best to start with a fresh settings files and installed RC2

when i tried to open it i got:

I too got the license problems with RC2 installed to a new folder. Did not get the problem with RC1. :?

Fortunately, after copying my license to the folder, it came up OK ...

Registry Cleaner, normal, raw list, vista

On the list, I have a key and a subkey. When I select just the key and remove it, the key and subkey backup and remove OK.

However, the now gone subkey remains on the list.

Registry Cleaner, focus or ...?

While I was typing the above, all the RC2 windows stopped responding --- PT CPU was 0% -- had to kill it ...

When I relaunched RC2, the same thing happened after the "all tests passed" messages

Relaunched again, this did not happen ...

Please try to download and install again. I uploaded a slightly modified version that could solve the problem.

The exact size of the new version's installation file is: 1 831 045 (the original you already tried was: 1 831 190). After downloading make sure you downloaded the new version, browsers sometimes cache downloaded files and you might not get the latest version by simply clicking the download link again.

I also had the License issue again in RC2. I purchased a license and it now works fine. Hopefully the program will prove helpful

Hi! I am beta testing the program since the beginning ; now I just installed RC2 ; I can confirm some other beta testers complaints about license but it finally worked out , not well but still it worked (I did not have to copy the lic . file to anaother folder , installing the lic. file worked .

NOW : IMPORTANT !

In Regmon : no way to get ANY SNAPSHOT: the program launches , the blue bar goes to its end and ... Nothing happens ; apprently no snapshot is finally taken ; there is no error message , nothing ; this is a very usefull utility ; it does not work since Beta 1 although I did not report on the problem just because redseujac terrified me with his supervision of this forum : not in the right place !!!!! OK now my report SHOULD be in the right place . No snapshot , wether full or limited .

In Regclean , I mentioned several times wrong positive related to the functionality of KAV ; for these I got a remerk of redseujac (again) who told me to set KAV in such a way that proactive defense should not be activated ; it has no impact on the problem ; the wrong positive appear all the time , are not eliminated , and what is worse cannot be put in any IGNORE LIST as I asked several times .

But for that matter the WORST is the fact that those wrong positive are granted by the rules OF JV 16 PT as SEVERE ERRORS ; could that be changed??????

Last : One Click Cleaner (again !!!! ) : this tool SHOULD have customized functions in order to check which files you are deleting ; also you SHOULD be abale to restore some of them if amistake has been done ; no way ; a strange window apperas where you are asked wether you want an auatomatic cleaning or not and several other possibilities but these are not really working ; in this form this tool is REALLY a danger and cannot be safely used . thank you for paying attention OLIVIER GEBUHRER

First time I ran file cleaner the program closed and I received an error when trying to check the box for C:\. Something to the effect I had to make a selection. I reran it and it ran fine. I like that it detected at least the C: drive on the system and just required a check.

The duplicate file finder on the other hand is not so friendly. The drive has to be manually added but it is on the 2nd tab. Once add is clicked and a drive is added it is stuck in the box until it is manually removed, but there is no remove button after adding drives.

It would be nice if this could be populated automatically and boxes checked/unchecked, similar to file cleaner. Also if tab 1 and 2 could be combined, upper portion showing files and bottom with drive check boxes. Just a thought to make it easier to use. I had one of my users try running it and he required prompting to walk through it. Not very intuitive for normal user.

File cleaner found drive C or that was automatically put there, but didn't identify a second hard. Of course the drop down list in duplicate file finder showed all drives in the system.

As always I am testing this on my production machine, since it is a more realistic test than a test machine that isn't used constantly and has software continually installed/uninstalled. For those that doubt the wisdom of this I will say that anytime I have had a problem, I have been able to use backups created by the program to repair the system, and the only problems of this nature have been registry associated.

I apologize for that mention : snapshots are taken correctly ; one has just the program finishes working ; not sure what can be compared but I will come back on that issue when I will have tested ; other items in my former posts are valid .

Directory finer:

Just hovering and not clicking on more options button, opens the sub-menu, this bug is not present in file finder.

Registry cleaner:

If there are only entries found in leftover data, and using select all (or ctrl+ a) and remove, you get:

Selecting only leftover data and remove works fine.

After updating to jv16PT 2007 1.7.0.377 (RC2#2) :) , PT works as a trial version.

Automation Tool:

Same bug as in RC1- running a registry cleaner task from inside the automation tool works fine, running it from a desktop shortcut, opens the task bar icon for a second then closes without running.

When I run Registry Cleaner and tell it to backup any removed entries the backups are being created in a temp directory in C:\Documents and Settings\Andy\Local Settings\Temp on my machine.

No backup directory is being created within the jv16 PowerTools 2007 RC2 directory.
