Thank you.
Updating from JV PT 2005 to 2006
Extract of the release notification on the following page:
The jv16 PowerTools 2006 can be installed over the latest version of jv16 PowerTools 2005 but not over any earlier version. If you update from PT 2005 you will lose all of your registry snapshots created by the Registry Monitor but you won't lose any of your backups.

Hi,
This is something I wanted to bring to your attention
for quite a while now.
jepe quoted:

However, there is a problem doing that:
If you install JV16 Powertools 2006 over 2005,you will end up with 2006 being in
C:\Program Files\jv16 Powertools 2005.(Confusing?)
Not only that, you will also have 2 sets of shortcuts
under Start > All Programs, one set for 2005 and another for 2006, but each one will only start 2006,since you overwrote 2005.
Now,if you decided at the time of installation of 2006, that it was not right to put it in 2005,
you will end up with 2 separate installations, each with their own shortcuts.
In other words,by using the year numbers and what I would call an improperly set installer, this is what happens.
The installer should be made smarter by also changing the folder from 2005 to 2006,delete or replace the 2005 shortcuts with 2006 shortcuts.
If the installer is not changed as I'm suggesting,
we will have the same problem with 2007.

I agree, but as far as I can tell the installation program used (Inno setup) doesn't support this.

My workaround to avoid this:
When the installer asks where to install, I take off the year (or version) as it gets:
Your drive letter:\...\jv16PowerTools\.
Or even, if you use different tools of Macecraft:
Your drive letter\Macecraft\jv16PowerTools\ or ...\RegSupremePro\ or ... .
Of course you have to do this also for the Start Menu shortcut.
So there wil not be a confusing situation at all.
