Registry Cleaner/Backup Tool/Custom Restore/hex data typeRegistry Cleaner now creates a backup for entries of this data type and can thus remove them. The backup entries.reg file appears to correctly restore the removed entries.
However, when entries are restored with Custom Restore, the hex data put in the registry is not correct.
Furthermore, when more than one line is selected in the Custom Restore list, only the last checked line restores (this does not happen with other data types).
Registry Cleaner/Registry Finder/Backup ToolBackups which contain only registry items appear under all three Backup Tool tabs.
Empty files exist: Cookies.dat (obsolete)
Files.dat (not applicable)
Strings.dat (obsolete?)
With Beta5, it seems all backups appear under all three tabs with some empty files. At least all I checked ...
History/MRU CleanerThese two lines have duplication (same as in Beta4):1. Microsoft, Windows Open/Save dialog
2. Microsoft, Windows (2 is a smaller subset of 1, and all its entries are duplicates of entries in 1)
Counting and removal of the MRUList entries under this key (and perhaps others) is not consistent:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\...
It may not be advisable to remove items under this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Map Network Drive MRU
Removal wipes out data in a windows explorer tool drop down list.
If it is not excluded by progamming, an appropriate caveat should be in the handbook ... so a user of that tool has some warning to "Never show again" for the line "Microsoft, Windows - Explorer MRUs."
One Click Cleaner (OCC)1. Removes the "Never show again" items specifed in SuperHistoryCleanerIgnoreList.dat.
2. Sometimes, fails to remove empty subdirectories when the system's Temp directories (below) are specified in the "Empty directories" tab.C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp
C:\WINDOWS\Temp
C:\WUTemp
When it does remove the empty subdirectories, it always fails to back them up . The file Dirs.dat lists the paths of the Temp directories above. Is it supposed to list the paths of the removed empty subdirectories?
2a. Puts out this message in case 2 above: : Failed to backup "C:\WINDOWS\Temp"! The tool should not be attempting to remove or backup any of the actual Temp directories. Note that the message only occurred for one of the three specified Temp directories.
3. The tool created two backups. One had the Type "Data removed with the One Click Cleaner" and the user provided description. All the removed files and registry MRU items are in this backup.
The other had the Type "Files removed with the File Cleaner" and description of "N/A" -- this backup is empty.
4. This message from File Cleaner appears in the main window message box: "Warning: Always verify the found files before removing them!" -- with One Click Cleaner, there is no list to verify -- the message should be suppressed for OCC.
Backup ToolWhen the tool starts or a tab is refreshed, the list is sorted on the ID (Backups subdirectory) column. It makes more sense to sort on the Created (date and time stamp) column in most recent first sequence.
File Cache featureWhen all the CachedDrives in FileCache.dat are set to False, PT does not continue. It enters an enabled loop. You can close jv16PT.exe by clicking the X widget or using Exit in the File context menu.
Message boxWhen text is selected in a message box, the context menu should have a copy option. Workaround is CTRL+C.
