After waiting four days for a response from Technical Support (which I paid for by the way), I decided to try a fix on my own before my trial of PT ran out. I had hoped to get this licensing issue resolved soon so that I could request a license for RegSupreme Pro as well, since I was greatly impressed by both trial versions. As an aside, PT worked flawlessly as a trial, until the license issue reared it's ugly head.
After searching the Forums for users experiencing problems such as mine, I tried the following:
1. Uninstalled PT using its packaged uninstaller
2. Cleaned up the leftover reg. entries with RegSupreme
3. Deleted anything left in the jvPT 2006 directory, leaving empty directory
4. Re-booted
5. Located License.xbin in jvPT 2006 directory
6. Installed PT with original setup.exe (other attempts were made with fresh installers after following the above steps as well)
After each install, PT would open as expected and tools would run normally. Any attempt though to use the drop-down menus would immediately cause the GUI to freeze (grey out) with no selectable items or leave only the selected drop-down menu visible. Selecting anything visible with the mouse had no effect. The use of Task Manager to end process on jv16PT.exe was the only way to terminate the program. The next attempt to launch PT would result in the dreaded "Your license file is missing or corrupted, the program can't run without a proper license." error. I did notice on a couple of uninstall/re-install attempts that the file, License_fixed.xbin would appear in the main directory of PT, if that has any bearing.
It appears to me, with my limited experience, that the license I received was either corrupt or for another program. Using instructions given to another user with similar problems, I was able to use the File Tool after initial install of PT to determine the CRC-32 value of the license I received. If it is of any use, the value is 2627D78A.
I posted the results of my attempts in this topic rather than starting a new one since they correspond to the original problem. If it needs to be moved to another forum, maybe jv16 or another moderator could place it in the appropriate one.
I intend to send this information to Technical Support as well, hoping that a response will be soon in coming. I would really like to resolve the problem without requesting a refund for money spent on an inoperable program, since I am quite impressed with the software.
If any other users have experienced similar difficulties please feel free to post any fix/solution. I am willing to try anything at this point. :
Regards,
Skinny
