What's Special about the Disk Defragmenter in JV16 2007?

I have followed JV16 Powertools for a long time to back when it was just a registry cleaner and free.

I am curious as to what makes the disk defragmenter in 2007 "special" compared to all the other disk defragmenters that are either freeware, shareware, or commercial?

Having an "all-in-one" tool can be nice.... but....

The main two reasons for including a Disk Defragmenter to PT 2007 are:

1. Disk defragmenter has been one of the most often requested new feature of all times in the history of jv16 PowerTools.

2. There really is no wide range of good graphical freeware disk defragmenters for Windows, or even too many reasonably priced shareware.

How does the defragmenter compare with Windows build in one?

doe it defrag the page file?

The Disk Defragmenter can only defrag files that can be freely accessed, the page file is locked so it cannot be defragged normally. And besides, there are freeware utilities that can defrag the pagefile.

The Disk Defragmenter will outperform Windows defrag in defrag quality, i.e. how well optimized the disk is after the operation has been performed.

The disk defragmenter does not seem to work in Vista. After going through the analyze process it will not show results of the scan.

Contig + Power Defragmenter GUI

JKDefrag v3.7 (open-source)

O&O Defrag 2000

Shareware:

UltimateDefrag v1.46 (Newest kid on the block)

Well,

O&O Defrag 2000 is freeware, but it's an very old version (and no more supported) - the latest I found was 3.5.

The newest version of O&O Defrag (8.6) you can get for a price of 49.95 USD.

Concerning JKDefrag it should be mentioned, that you have to download JKDefragGUI, otherwise you do have a Command-line utility without graphical interface to configure it.

This is a known bug of the PT 2007 Betas, it will be fixed in the next released version.

Has disk defrag been abandoned, it wasn't included in jv16 2007 beta5 and it's absent from 2007 RC1?

It is in my copy of 2007 Beta5.

A note in the RC1 release topic in the "Beta testing" Forum mentions why it is not, for now, in RC1.
