I had an opportunity to reinstall jv16 recently after a visitor to my site, which has a tutorial on how to use jv16 PowerTools to uninstall AOL, complained that the free trial failed to activate for him after he installed the program...in fact, the progam displayed a message saying that the free trial license had expired as soon as he tried to open it, and told him to go buy jv16 at macecraft.com.
He complained of that to me in a comment on my site a few weeks ago. At the time my copy of jv16 was fine and I was having no problems with it, so I told him to try uninstalling and reinstalling it, including totally cleaning every file and registry entry off his PC so he could start fresh with it, and told him that if all else failed to grab the last free version of it (forgive me, but I didn't know how else to help him to at least be able to use some version of the program to get rid of AOL on his computer).
I heard no more from him, and a few weeks later I was cleaning unneeded .log and .txt files off my computer and I deleted all my translation files for jv16 including English (the only one I use) so the next time I opened jv16 it displayed no text at all. I had a good laugh over my stupid mistake, then I uninstalled it, and I always grab a fresh installer for my programs when I can to keep them updated, so I went to macecraft.com and downloaded another .exe for the handbook version, installed it, set it to "run when finished" and got the same message the guy who complained to me got a few weeks ago: "Free trial license has expired, purchase at blah blah blah." I could not open or use jv16 at all.
As jv16 and some of you other guys already know I have my license backed up to a CD because of problems I had losing it in the past, so I uninstalled jv16 again, put my CD in, copied my license to a new folder called "jv16," grabbed another installer from macecraft.com and installed it into the new folder I made for it, chose "run when finished" and had no more problems, as the license displays my name when I use the program, just like it should.
My question is, my tutorial is built around the fact that you can use jv16 free for the first month you have it, but it's not letting anybody do that (if the visitor and me are any indication). Is the installer corrupted and therefore preventing us from using the free trial version? Or are you no longer offering the free trial?
Whatever the answer is, I need to know because I plan on updating my site ASAP with whatever you can tell me about it.
Thanks for your help.
