Hi,

I had the following question:

I discovered that after I removed a piece of software and let the PT2006 registry cleaner remove useless entries, I still can find lots of entries from the removed piece of software with the PT2006 registry finder. I understand why these entries couldn't be removed (it's explained elsewhere in this forum) but my question is: is it safe to remove all these entries too since I know the software is uninstalled?

I give an example here (in that case, I removed the Sygate firewall). All these entries could be found by the registry finder. Since the Sygate firewall is removed since ages from my system, I assume I am allowed to remove these entries too, ... but am I right? (or is there any risk that Windows then crashes?)

Can you think of a case in which I shouldn't remove the entries the registry finder finds?

Thank you!

It should be safe to remove those HKUS and HKCU items -- but do the Reg Finder backup of course.

It's probably safe to remove the HKLM Services items, but I'm not sure (anyone else know?)

In general, only use Registry Finder to backup/remove items when you are pretty sure there will be zero impact. Leave the others until you have done enough research to know the likely impact.

Thank you Tullik.

I will give it a try.

Have a nice day.

Bye the way, I think it would be a great improvement in PT 2007 to add a help section with the kind of information as given above!

It's a matter of giving of user more insights in the registry, I think it can help a lot (it would help me anyway).

That sort of information is in the PT 2006 handbook. And use Google ... :
