After years of perfect service jv16 (2006) refuses to clean up my system... First, it takes a lot of time to complete the search, then it tells me there are a lot of errors (14211, 14148 classified as high risk), finally when I try to check the "highlight them all" box, it simply refuses to do anything.

Please help.

What version of the product you are using? With what settings you are running the Registry Cleaner?

jv 2006 (151309);normal mode.System is windows 2000 Pro.

You are using a rather old version, you can download the latest version from: http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/

You should be able to just download it and install it over the curent version, if that doesn't work, uninstall and then reinstall.

Are any other applications running at the same time? What antivirus product do you use?

Could you verify from the Help>About window what version of the product you are using?

No other application running.Tried again after disabling Outpost. Antivirus is NOD32, never gave issues. JV16: confirm 152344.

Downloaded and tried with trial version of RegSupreme: same result, when I click on CHECK all nothing happens.

Okay, I've discovered one thing: if, while the program is working, I do check the error lines one by one (the program lets me do this) and then, when the search is ended, I click on DELETE - all the checked erors disappear from the registry. So I had 14211 errors - that have now been slimmed down to 13866. But using this metod for these remaining 13866 errors would be rather annoying and time-consuming...

Please give me a better alternative.

There were issues with NOD32 => look at this.

But maybe the great quantity of registry errors play a role?

Maybe it is Nod32's fault, Redseujac - but : I am using Nod32 since 2003 and it never did anything to jv16 till today. As for the great quantity of errors, well maybe that plays a role, but I do not think that it is the issue.

I finally found a workaround for eliminating the errors : checking the ALL box while the program is working gets at the end all the error lines checked;then clicking repeatedly on DELETE eliminates them effectively. But it is not a painless work, you have to do it a number of times and for reasons I do not understand doing this evokes a every time regedit!

having the same problem but in my case I am using vista rc2 build 5744 so I will asume thats the problem for now.I didnt have any problems running it on vista rc1 build 5600 and it runs fine on xp pro.Sorry dont have a solution but was hoping to find one here.

just to let all know the lastest update now allows reg cleaner to work with vista

3 months later

I have just installed Vista Home Premium on a new unused hard drive and JV16's Reg cleaner does not clear out the items it identifies. What ever I do, I still have 799 entries whenever I run the cleaner.

I am running the latest version. Any ideas as i don't want to get my registry clogged up with unnecessary items.

Could you please the jv16 PowerTools 2007 Beta2? You can download it from: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1719

Running it could make a difference since it now shows the error messages received from the Windows core if for example registry key cannot be removed, the previous versions of PowerTools didn't show that.

Thanks for the response.

I've uninstalled 2006 version and installed the Beta. Had to move my licence to the beta file as said my trial had expired! Assume that was the correct thing to do.

It still won't delete anything, saying that access has been denied. I am running it as the administrator so can't see why that would be.

I don't know the reason why, but that access denied error is coming directly from Windows, there's nothing jv16 PowerTools can do about it.

This is most likely some kind of compatibility issue between PT and Vista, or Vista has some user restrictions to registry even if you are running as the administrator.

Some weeks ago, I tried PT 2006 with Vista Ultimate Beta2 Build 5???.

Removal failed for some routine (for PT) items. I looked at some permissions and the items had "Deny" checked for user "Everyone." I unchecked the box and the items could then be removed.

This was either a bug in the Beta or overenthusiastic security policy by Microsoft Vista folks. There were other major irritations involving use of regedit.

I don't intend to test further until I get a non-beta version of Vista (perhaps late 2007 or early 2008).

In the meantime, I will just continue to use XP Pro.
