I use jv16 PowerTools 2006, version 1.5.2.344, and took for granted that Registry Finder always would deliver all the keys I want, until this very day.

I have been trying all inbuilt search methods of Registry Finder, but this tool fails to find the following items in the Windows Registry (XP, SP2):

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LogMeIn.GuestInvite

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LogMeIn.GuestInvite.1

The above mentioned “commercial rat” has previously been eliminated by simply uninstalling the software, then by using Registry Cleaner, and finally by using Registry Finder to delete possible residuals. And indeed, the latter function did find a lot of items, that could be erased later on, but not all!

Why doesn’t Registry Finder discover above mentioned items, when I use search words like “logmein”, not even when all the entire search path is spelt out. Wild cards do not work here either.

Henrik

Exactly what search options you are using?

In other words, what settings are enabled under Search by date, Search method and Options tabs, and is there anything under Ignore words tab?

After you have verified the used settings, please rerun the tool with the same search word as always, verify that the key was not found.

6 months later

Dear developer,

Sorry for the delay (7 months or so).

Topic is closed. Reported keys are not in the Registry no more, BUT I can easily find examples where Registry Finder fails to find search words. Below are four remaining keys from an uninstallation of a Grisoft software. The Cleaner removes the keys, but at the same time they are restored in the Registry again. Beats me why, and why is it not possible to use Registry Finder to lookup any string parts of the items below? Did I missunderstand how to use the tool? Shouldn't a normal search (of key values) on Grisoft, or a case insensitive wildcard search on *Grisoft* do the job? Shouldn't the Finder lookup AvgDiagFile from the key path below? How to use this tool?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AvgDiagFile\DefaultIcon\@ : C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgdiag.exe,0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\classes\AvgDiagFile\DefaultIcon\@ : C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgdiag.exe,0

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AvgDiagFile\shell\open\command\@ : "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgdiag.exe" /AVDFILE=%1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\classes\AvgDiagFile\shell\open\command\@ : "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgdiag.exe" /AVDFILE=%1

Sorry, we encountered an error while displaying this content. If you're a user, please try again later. If you're an administrator, take a look in your Flarum log files for more information.
5 days later

I've been using all search methods (one at the time).

Options are the same as your standard settings, i.e. all HKEYs checked, and in the advanced section: Analyze key names, ...value names, ...value data checked as well. Other lines here are unchecked.

No ignored words.

Current program version is 1.5.2.350

Best regards,

Henrik
