Updating cache takes forever!

Anyone else having this problem with Regsuppreme Pro 1.1?

Do you have External Harddisks?

If so try to disable them and then remove the file 'RegSupreme Pro\Data\FileCache.dat'.

Then restart RSP and look what happens.

I have let RSP update the filecache a few times and i never had any problem.

Yes, I have two a 120GB and a 200GB. I have disabled them as you suggested. Rebooted as was instructed after disabling the ext hard drives and at the moment running the cache update. Looked in the RegSuppremePro directory for the file filecache.dat and it was not there. My point is though, before the update, it was working fine. I installed it over the old version and as soon as I let it update the cache, it just sits there telling me it could take between 2-20 minutes. There is no indication that it is actually doing something. I wish developers would include a progress bar of sorts, just to let us know the program is working and isn't just hanging there?

OK! I installed RegSuppremePro on another computer running XP Pro. No problem there. It would go through the motions and update the cache and every thing. Then I copied the filecache.dat file to my XP Home machine and the same problem would occur, not only that but the .dat file was gone! So I changed the permissions to Read Only, ran the program and this time it did not come up with the nag to update the cache and checking the directory, the .dat file was still there! Go Figure!

I just downloaded the trial version of RegSupreme so far it has been 30 minutes and there is no indication that it is actually doing anything. An animated graphic is not a very good indication that an app is performing the indicated task. As another poster indicated a process bar would be more suitable. I dont have any external hard drives.

Update. After 40 mins I quit the program. I exited the program, logged out of Win2k and then back in. When I start the program up I am getting an invlid pointer operation.

With a thank of one good beta tester I think this problem is now fixed for good. Please check out the next updated version, it should be out this week.

I assume that this update will be released to fix the updating cache problem. I have stopped using it until I re-evaluate the direction I will be taking with regards to registry cleaners.

Installed the latest version of RegSuppreme Pro 1.1.0.30 and it still has the same problem. Takes forever to update. Had it running all night (12 hrs at least) and this morning it was still sitting there telling me it was only going to take between 2 and 20 min. Personally I don't care how long it takes, but it is clearly not doing anything at all. My guess is something ( a program running in the back ground) is interferring with whatever it is supposed to be doing. Yet if I transfer the FileCache.dat file from my other computer into the data directory, it works and does not give me the nag screen. I have 4 hard drives. 2 internal (120GB) 2 external (120GB and 200GB) Altogether I have 12 partitions. I'm running XP Home SP2 with all the latest updates. My point, which seems to be missed here is that it was working fine before the "new and improved" versions came along. The only nag then was that it would not recognize the license, otherwise, it did the update cache thing (took only a couple of minutes) and worked fine after that. Anyway, I am going to experiment a little more with this. I'll try booting without any startup programs and see what happens.

Well, I tried the old msconfig, (after renaming the FileCache.dat file) selected diagnostic startup (basic tasks and services) rebooted, ran RegSupremePro and sure enough, after about 3 minutes the file cache was updated and the program was ready to go. Then checked the FileCache.dat file in the data dir, copied it to a safe place and renamed it just in case. Rebooted, (using normal startup) ran RSP and voila, it worked. No more nagging screen and the .dat file is still intact. (quite a bit larger than the one I copied from the other computer, but then it only has two HDs 80GB and 6GB and 4 partitions) So feeling a little brave, I decided to give the JV16 PT a try because it still has this problem of shutting down after selecting "YES" to let it update the cache. No joy with this one, it still shuts down. Works fine after copying the .dat file from RSP to the cache dir. Going back to RSP, I'm not sure what program caused it to hang up like that, but I have a sneaky suspicion it was either Ad-watch from Lavasoft or my antivirus program (PCCillin from Trend Micro). I hope any of this helps the gurus at jv16?

I would of thought that the filecache.dat is machine specific. Wouldn't copying over a file from another computer give the application erroneous information?

P.S. Was there an announcement posted in the forums somewhere about the updated version that you are using?

There was an announcement on their home page about an update for RegSuppremePro. I don't know about the erroneous bit when using the .dat file. All I know is that it won't nag me and it now works!

No I haven't Appears that RegSupreme Pro now works on my machine. Haven't seen if there is an updated JV16Tools.

I have not seen one yet either, hoping the powers that be at jv16 are working on that one still? By the way, you can make up your own bogus FileCache.dat file in notepad. Just open notepad, don't enter anything save as Filecache.dat-- all files (not txt) and copy that file to your jv16 cache dir. The next time you run it, it will not ask to update your cache. Untill they get a real fix?
