Won't allow full trial period

I was only able to get one day's worth of free trial of jv16PowerTools 2006 before it said it was expired. Perhaps it was reflected from the one day I had left on my RegSupreme 1.3 trial that I deleted- I found I wanted more features than it offered so I wanted to try Power Tools instead. I know I totally removed RegSupreme 1.3 before downloading the other program, so there shouldn't have been any conflicts. Is there a way to redownload jv16 Power Tools 2006 and get my full trial period? Thank you.

The trial times of RegSupreme or RegSupreme Pro do not affect the trial time of PowerTools, they all have a separate trial time system. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Have you changed the time or date settings of your computer recently?

Hello rvjudi. I am SylviaF and I sympathise with your dilemma which is identical to mine. May I suggest that you have a look at my own postings in the Technical Support Forum under the subject heading of 'Trial period will not run' so that you can share in the answers I have been given by a JV16 developer (possible the same person that has replied to you.

I have also exchanged a number of emails with a gentleman in Macecraft Support and if you are interested to see what he has said and my replies to him together with the logic arguments I have put forward for the reasons I do not accept the 'nothing can be done' stance, I am quite happy to exchange personal email addresses with you through the message board and forward copies of the correspondence.

The trial system of jv16 PowerTools has now been changed. You can now download the latest version and you should be able to get a new 30 day trial.

Yes thank you I have. I have finalised the thread I started and this is what I have said to them:-

"Well now, there we go. I knew there was something wrong with it and I am very pleased that it has now been put right.

However, I would have been more impressed if, in the first place, you had accepted a potential client's word and tried to discover where the fault was, not try and fob me off by telling me that you had not had this fault for ages when all the time, there was someone else with the precise and exact same fault on the precise and exact same day, also being fobbed off.

I may only be an end user and not a programmer but I recognise a coding fault when it is as obvious as this was and you should have been grateful that someone was pointing it out to you. It has always been a good product and much admired in the 'trade' and trying to 'back out' of this was unworthy. Anyway, there's a positive outcome, thank you.

It just goes to show that persistence can pay off and I'm glad that we have both been proved to be correct. I shall use the trial and then buy the program because it really is very good.

I had thought that this thread had been closed so I was a bit surprised to get another message on it.

All I can tell you is that I downloaded the free trial which just would not run despite several attempts. I tried a Google search and found the Macecraft site and posted a query to customer support. They replied very politely but along the 'there is nothing that can be done' lines. Not at all satisfied or content with that I went in to the Discussion Forums and posted a message to start a new thread (you can read the postings). Eventually by searching through other discussion threads I came across this other person with the identical problem and what struck me was the coincidence that he had downloaded on the same date as me. Eventually we both removed the original download and tried again and this time it worked.

All I can suggest to you is that you adopt the same approach. Get a new download every day until you get one that works. My own approach is to keep the Temporay Internet Files and Cookies folder or Firefox cache empty and run a Registry Cleaner after every failed attempt (the free Easy Cleaner is trutworthy if you haven't a pet one of your own choosing) so you are not getting clogged up with junk.

I can't offer to email you privately with a copy of my own download because I feel certain I eventually deleted it and I bought the RegSupremePro license (part of the full JV16 program). If I find I do still have it I'll post another message to let you know. In the meantime I'll keep watching.

I understand your concern and your logic and I agree with all that you say. I don't know which of the aspects of the program you are wanting to use or for how long you have been a thinking member of the computer users' WWS (World Wide Society). For myself, I am self taught through good magazines and web pages like The Elder Geek and sheer hard work and have been captivated for about 14 or 15 years in one branch and one only, as a user. I am not a programmer or a web designer just merely someone who loves to use computers and try to understand them (although I do build my own when a total upgrade becomes necessary). I am retired and my main experience is spending a large portion of my time in my local area as a computer problems trouble-shooter trying to assist people to see why their computer is in a mess and how to fix it. I have a considerable number of clients. Believe me a very, very large percentage of computer owner/users are not thinking users at all so you are already well ahead of the game in even knowing that JV16 exists and what it is used for. I only offer all this as a background to whether or not you think my advice is/is not worth even reading.

I don't know from where I got the information somewhere in the distant past but I seem to recollect that the excellent original JV16 Tools was written by a Swedish college student who, to me as a non-programmer, seemed little short of brilliant. The essential armoury of equipment for someone who does what I do is a set of software 'utilities' that are non-destructive, reliable, reasonably priced and work without conflict with other similar tools. I also cannot remember for how long I have used the old JV16 Tools; it's a long time. I have really mainly been interested in the Registry Cleaner aspect of it and it has never, ever caused a problem in the many, many computers I have used it on. That's really all I can tell you. Whether or not you commit a few $$s or ££s is up to you. I have wondered recently if the original person who wrote the original program is still active in its distribution or if (just like Microsoft acquired DOS from IBM in the early years) he sold it to Macecraft. I'll say no more. If Macecraft don't want to lose their reputation they are certainly going to have to clean up their act. It's their denial that anything is wrong that needles me.

It's up to you what you do - as a very good Registry Cleaner I have bought a license for RegSupreme Pro for myself because I trust it and if I need to use something for a client I download a 30-day trial for them then remove it when I am finished. I can't think that's illegal (and perhaps they might want to have their own license anyway). The program offers to make you a backup for if anything goes wrong. My own recommendations (if you think they have value) are: make sure you have good security in place; cover yourself by backing up (I recommend ERUNT for daily automatic backups); learn how a program works; keep personal data on a separate partition; be very, very sparing with any MS updates and control them yourself. If my advice is helpful I'm glad, if you think it isn't that's OK too.

As a Macecraft user since many years I just can't agree with you.

The support - of the developper himself - is far above the quality of much bigger companies. And following - also since years - the discussions on this forum, I've never could read from him something as "anything is wrong". He ever tried to solve even individual problems as far as possible, if people gave him a bit of time.

So, I'm shure, it would be also in your cases.

Writing that long posts is not very smart, especially when you still don't know that jv16 was not a Swedish, but a Finnish student AND he is still the one and only programmer of the PowerTools NOT sold to Macecraft Software (it's his own - family - company) and situated in Finland too.

If it's true you are using jv16 PT that long, we haven't seen very much posts of yours helping "really" other users in a "technical" way (and where were you during the betatestings of the programs?) :

One correction: I'm not the only programmer. At the moment we have a two member in-house team working on PowerTools, we also purchase some services and development from third parties.
