It's already included in PowerTools 2006. You've got to select "wipe free space". Unless you're talking about the free space left alone in every cluster, I don't it could be possible to wipe that without destroying the whole cluster data, but I could be wrong.

As I understand files (I'm not a power user), the actual disk space occupied by a file is larger than the space occupied by the data in the file. This unused space in the file may contain leftover "deleted" data from previous files stored in the same location. Therefore, for maximum security, the file slack should be wiped. If you Google "wipe file slack" I think you will find some software that has this capability. This is not a feature most users will need routinely, but it is important to understand the limitations of wipe tools.


If the jv16 Wipe tool does indeed wipe all file slack, please enlighten me. I don't think this topic is mentioned anywhere in the jv16 documentation or forums.

The wipe all data mode wipes the entire contents of the hard drive, including the file slacks.
