There are already quite a few products that offer this kind of transparent encryption. We use a product called BestCrypt at Macecraft to protect our sensitive files (such as source codes). It's also a finnish product, more info is available at: http://www.jetico.com/

I quickly browsed Eraser's website, that's also a finnish program by the way. The PT's disk wiper doesn't contain any scheduling features but otherwise it offers pretty much the same range of features. There's really not that many features one could include to a tool such as this one - it just wipes data.

I'll have to reply to your other comments/suggestions later on.

It really would be cool if you could offer a scheduler, a context menu item for "Erase", and a clean pagefile at shutdown. I'd love to be able to use jv16 PT for that :)

Another thing I was thinking that I would really like would be a software catalog. Scan a user definable set of directories for installers and archives and create a small database.. try to automatically pick out the company, title, and version, and put them into a database and organize them by catagory, and sort display by company, title, catagory, or whatever. Of course you would want fields to be user definable, including things like the program's website, then include a space for the path to the installer and the existing uninstaller data that you have in the Software Manager, be able to open the containing folder with a click, and have file tools available in the same UI. I rarely delete installers for programs that I find useful, so the result is that I have a pretty big archive of programs.. it's been very hard to find a decent program to organize them all (most of those programs are geared towards MP3s, although I would like to be able to organize those too), so something like this would be really great.. just include it in the Software Manager so we can have full software managment capabilities :) (don't forget the program icon, too!)

Could it be possible to have a REAL good UNINSTALLER; some of the programs that I bought on the market go a little bit beyond what Add/remove programs already does ; but none of those is able to detect a wrong install , therefore beeing able to uninstall a wrongly installed program would be great ; also there are problems with windows uninstaller or installer ; it keeps coined somewhere on the HD and when you launch an uninstall command , it pops out to uninstall some other program . Could this be feasable on Jv 16 PT , namely having a tool which cleans or repair or control installation and uninstallation and especially controls what the windows Installer excatly does ; I am sorry not beeing able to give more precise technical expalantions but anybody who has once fulminated about add/ remove misbehaviours will know what I am talking about ; maybe this is already inculded in some requests but I was unbale to decide wether it was the case or not; also maybe the actual program does exactly what I am asking but I do not know how to make it work in my case so even in that case , improving what exists already regarding this functionality would be nice ; fnally it is also possible that my request goes far beyond the actual state of art or impossible to realize at all ;sorry in this case . That reminds me that an additional part to what I was thinking that I would like to see is an uninstaller where it takes a snapshot of the registry and files before and after an install, then compares and saves an 'undo' file, letting you clean up after a monitored installation (after the registry monitor is working right, that is).

Basically imagine the Software Manager with tabs for Uninstall, Install, and All. JV16 PT could then scan a user-definable location for installers and help you organize them. For each entry you would have user definable fields (and descriptions) that you could sort by, but that it would fill in automatically when possible (for descriptions this would be just the file_id.diz), and give you the option to install, install with monitoring, and uninstall.. plus a few explorer options like 'open containing folder'.

It would also be nice to have the file scanner alone, like the Windows Support Tool "Visual File Information", which just lists the contents of an arbitrary folder (or drive) and lets you sort the results by whatever field. This is great for tracing back what's been changed on a computer and when. File hashing functionality would be great here, too.

It seems like this kind of functionality is all already there, it would just be a matter of putting it all together into a small database (Access?).

Suggestions:

On the "registry find" and "find and replace", display (or make a button to display on command) exactly what was searched for... sometimes I type in a search, and it runs, then i forget exactly what i had put in the search!

Add an icon to the main page for "restore backups", right now it's just in the menu system.

In the search results page, make it so that if you highlight or select a key, all the subkeys and values to that key are automatically selected.

Add to the search results page a CLSID sub-window: so that if a search returns a key with a value that is a CLSID, then right click on that CLSID value and it would take you to a sub-search window that would show the actual key for the CLSID that is referred to.

Another suggestion.

When a search returns a value or subkey, make an option to select the containing key. For example, suppose i search for "Xmencmp3", and the search returns

then I would like to be able with a right click option to select the containing CLSID; perhaps in a sub-window. From there i could backup and delete the containing key. Right now, i have to use the JV16 lookup to go into the regedit and do all that manually.

About "Starting Programs" list.

Compared to RegSupreme Pro, the jv16PT are missing one column in this tab which contains some detailed info about where is each item stored.

This feature misses at least two more locations in the registry which are mostly used by some trojans/viruses for their startup...

It would be nice to have jv16PT able to manage items from Internet Explorer's Add-Ons list (see Tools / Internet Options... / Programs / Manage Add-Ons item in IE). IE itself is able to enable/disable them, but I'd like to have the ability to completely remove them as well.

FILE FINDER

- I'm getting some problems with long paths (those whose length is bigger than one line). A search in these paths gives no result, even if they are filled with files. Maybe it's caused by my aging OS, but if it isn't, a fix is another thing to include.

This was actually a bug in the product, the bug is already fixed in the latest version so please consider updating.

Actually, he already has a tool that does this--it's the Start Menu fixer. Run it and it will search all the shortcuts in your Start Menu and on your desktop to make sure none are broken.

Nope, desktop, too, as far as I know. I think it's just those two places though. (It does do the start menu for each user on your PC though.)

JuryDuty is correct, from the Handbook:

"The Start Menu Fixer automatically analyzes all shortcuts from your Start menu and Desktop. It doesn't just remove the broken ones, it can actually repair them. For example, if it notices you have moved an application from one directory to another, it can automatically fix the shortcut to point to

the new location. The shortcuts it cannot fix it can remove."

So many things come back with "unknown" author that I would like to be able to fill in that information where I know it.

I realize that I can put "comments" on items, but that would not allow me to sort effectively on the author column. Truly unknown authors might indicate malware or spyware that SpyBot etc. have missed.

I'd like to have a feature in startup manager, to set wich program starts first, second, and so on. Firewall and antivirus programs should start first but sometimes they don't. And as someone already said it would be useful to have an online database of the startup programs that tells what they are and wether they can be trusted or not.

As far as I know, the order in which the programs are started is always determined by Windows and cannot be changed.
