Attempted "Speed Up My Computer" checking most performance tweaks. No noticeable results.

Most of these tweaks, if not all, require a reboot to see the results. Depending on how well configured your machine is, none may be noticeable.

I'm just adding my two cents. Take it for what it's worth, if it's worth anything ;)

At 1537, 0 to 1% cpu, 63 MB working set

As reported in previous betas (4 &5) The 'Clean and Fix' module does not and has not functioned properly on either of my XP systems.

I have attached 'Debug Log' and screenshots of errors when attempting to run this module. This bug is reproduceable on every attempt.

Hopefully the Log will reveal something helpful.

File Finder can run a long time without producing a results list, and jv16PT.exe continues to hold working set memory after the tool is aborted and PowerTools is exited.

This now happens every time on my system. The exception messages are not always the same. Sometimes, when the PowerTools exit works, the process continues to acquire working set memory. I've seen it go a high as 800 MB before I killed the process.

Run characteristics of jv16PT.exe per Task Manager:

At 1733, 25% cpu, 48 MB working set

At 1734, 25% cpu, 75 MB working set; after the first minute or less, the progress "analyzed" counts stopped changing.

At 1736 25% cpu, 104 MB working set

At 1738 25% cpu, 131 MB working set

At 1753 25% cpu, 225 MB working set

At 1800 25% cpu, 245 MB working set

At 1810 25% cpu, 265 MB working set

At 1816 25% cpu, 280 MB working set; exception message : Not enough timers available.

At 1820 25% cpu, 285 MB working set

At 1829 25% cpu, 295 MB working set; clicked Abort; exception message : Error writing tags.

At 1836 0% cpu, 303 MB working set; tried to exit PowerTools; several exception messages indicated by beeps.

Yes, I can confirm this for W7 x86 Pro.

Only when selecting an item from the scan result list using the UP/DOWN arrow key's and scrolling rather fast.

The data displayed in the header is the data of an 1-4 line back previous scrolled item!

I can confirm the same "process continues to acquire set memory" (at times) after PT is exited.

As for "run a long time without producing a results list", this is exactly what happens when I initiate the 'Clean and Fix' component. The process hangs indefinitely ( As previously posted)

Thanks, Leonardo. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one whom has noticed this. While I agree it happens mostly when the arrow keys are used quickly, it's not always the case. It sometimes occurs with rather leisurely application of the arrow keys.

I looked through your log and noticed it ended at a folder for Avast. Avast probably terminated JV Powertools to protect itself. I'm not that familiar with Avast, but I think you caught a bug that the developers can fix. It was my understanding that all things anti-virus and security related were to be ignored.

edit: Just an FYI for you, wphs, XP allows screenshots to be saved in ".png" (Portable Network Graphics) format, which greatly reduces file size and looks almost as good as bitmaps ;)

Thanks Avatarrr: Yes, I was curious about the Avast folder?? However, not sure how that relates to 'The Hangimg Issue' when running 'Fix and Clean my computer'. But that bug is the developers area.

I think I got the reason of the error msg ": Failed to access "C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2011\Settings\HistoryCleaner.xdat"!"

I have downloaded 2 copy of Windows XP with SP3 from MSDN, one is Chinese version and the other one is English. I installed both of them inside my VM.

There is no error at the English version. However, in the Chinese version, no matter what I do, that error always appears.

I have not found a way to reproduce this randomly appearing issue. It happened twice to me after doing some testing with Registry Cleaner + File tools.

File Finder takes far too long to do a simple search.

Settings:

Search for *.tmp

Search in: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\Many targets_a-x (folder contains 1400 files, all *.tmp)

Grouping: Do not group

Columns: Size & all three dates preselected to show

It took 21 minutes before the tool presented a list. CPU use was a steady 25% of quad processors for the whole period. Memory (working set) grew steadily and was nearly 175 MB when the list appeared.

If you do not have the date columns preselected, does it make a difference? Also, can someone else confirm this problem?

Registry Cleaner, during the 'FIX' operation, an application error "List index out of bounds (0)" occured only for the entry listed in the screenshot below.

An "Out of Memory" error occured when clicking 'End application'.

The 'FIX" operation could only complete by bypassing this particular registry entry.

After that, the remaining part of the Registry 'Fix' operation went without a problem!

The text in the "Reason for detection" column can not be translated because no X_ prefix, e.g.

- Key is empty

- Invalid file reference

- Incorrect software item
and no doubt still other expressions.

This is now fixed, thank you for reporting! I'm afraid these items are not present in English.lng, therefore I had to modify it. The list of changes to the English.lng is included in the Change Log.

As I reported previously, tooltip is missing when sliding mouse over the tool name.

I can confirm the issue but I can't seem to find the reason for this problem. However, since this is such a cosmetic issue I will not use much time in order to fix this issue for now.
