Registry Monitor HKCU only snapshot Compare right click on a detail line-->Open in RegEdit opens at Computer, not at the listed key. Top panel Ctrl-->point-->click anywhere on the green key opens RegEdit correctly.

Note: the HKCU only snapshot was taken 11/29/2010.

This issue is now fixed, thank you for reporting! The same problem also affected other tools but it was most common in the Registry Monitor.

"Open in Regedit" and the Clean and Fix "double click registry key" no longer open to the registry key itself. Regedit opens but not to any key.

This applies to items found in the categories below.

Obsolete Add/Remove menu entry

Obsolete software entry

Useless file extension

Useless registry entry

Keys found in Invalid file or directory reference open to the key itself.

This is now fixed, thank you for reporting!

Something I have noticed in the 2011 versions that I have, so far, failed to mention is when I cycle through the list of items with the arrow keys, not always is the header updated. To be clear, this never happens if an item is clicked, only when the arrow keys are employed. Further, this behavior is inconsistent. It does not always happen; and when it does, it varies from item to item. I present three illustrations:

Can anyone else confirm this? This could just be a quirk of this particular machine (and that would figure, right?).

I can confirm this too, I'm trying to find the solution.

Generating the software list is very very slow, in fact too slow to be practical.

How long time does it take?

As a reference:

In XP-SP3 it took 43 seconds to build a Startup Manager scan list with 7 items

In W7 x86 it took 64 seconds to build a scan list with 11 items.

Search for *.tmp

Search in: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\Many targets_a-x (folder contains 1400 files, all *.tmp)

Grouping: Do not group

Columns: Size & all three dates preselected to show

It took 21 minutes before the tool presented a list. CPU use was a steady 25% of quad processors for the whole period. Memory (working set) grew steadily and was nearly 175 MB when the list appeared.

With the same settings, PT2009 did the job in three minutes.

Could the debug code in PT2011 make that much difference?

It makes a difference, but still takes too long for a simple search.

With only Size preselected, it took 10 minutes, used the steady 25% CPU, and had a final working set of 150 MB. Nearly 1400 files were in the list.

The largest impact seems to be list volume. With Search for 0*.tmp (instead of *.tmp) and only Size preselected, it took less than a minute and had a final working set of 53 MB; 141 files were in the list.

Also, if this smaller list is run twice in a row, it builds on the prior working set, going to about 100 MB.

In a similar scan with Grouping = Search in directory, the tool has even more difficulty doing its job:

File Finder can run a long time without producing a results list, and jv16PT.exe continues to hold working set memory after the tool is aborted and PowerTools is exited. Awaiting developer response.

I ran 2 sets of File Finder tests with XP-SP3. I can confirm that there is definitely something wrong with the beta6 File Finder tool.

Searching for *.exe files on my E:\ disk, the 1st run found 584 files, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th test run (during the same jv16PT session) found a decreasing number of files.

The jv16PT working set is indeed growing from 37MB to 108MB over the testruns, in the same jv16PT session.

EDITED:

The beta6 runtimes vary from 2,5-4 minutes! The runtime in jv16PT-2010-v2.0.0.986 is only a few seconds to build the list for the 584 found files!

In the last test run File Finder "stopped working" during the build of the scan result list. jv16PT used 0% processing time at that time. I could 'Abord' File Finder!

The slow performance of the File Finder is now fixed, thank you for reporting! Also the issue of the File Finder listing a different number of results per each run should now be fixed.

I would say that this is a cosmetic issue, I'll try to fine tune it when I have some time.

This is by design, the tool also scans the registry and hard disk in order to find installed software not listed in the Programs & Features list.

Registry Monitor "Change back" operation goes through a backup dialog and the selected items drop off the list, but (1) no backup is created, (2) the changes are not made, and (3) nothing shows in the Action history (perhaps because nothing actually happened?). Awaiting developer response.

Lets see if the problem still occurs in the next version, I did some changes.
