This may very well be just local to my system, however, they are empty folders that build up and are useless. If a way could be found to get rid of these; it would be entirely useful. Again, if this is a rehash of something posted before, my apologies.

I periodically use the Directory Finder tool to search certain directories on my system for empty folders. Then I examine the results list briefly before deleting them.

Certain directories are those that I know accumulate unnecessary empty folders.

Thank you for your advice, tullik. I find it's easier, for me anyway, to use Explorer to find these things. I know where most of them reside. The reason I posted about this issue (well, it's not an issue, per se...) is that in the new beta 4, it does an automatic look-up for empty files. I have not seen this feature before in "Clean and Fix."

I figured if it was going to do this; it might as well get the others.

edit: folders, not files, sorry.

Which settings did you use in the Clean and Fix my Computer scan, "Normal System scan?

Yes. Probably in 99%+ of cases, an empty Start Menu folder is not required by anything.

I haven't played with the beta myself, but skimming through the problems posted here it sounds like there's still a fair bit of cleanup to be done. What's the current guesstimate as to expected completion (I know you'd been hoping for late last year)?

Software Uninstaller gets an access violation every time after "Yes" to the backup dialog when you click "Delete" in the Uninstall Software, Advanced Settings window.

*** The Directory option now implemented can create too many groups for easy review because of subfolders.

*** A new Search Directory option would only group the specified search directories, providing an easier to read list.

*** I suppose the File Cleaner has an additional non-specified search directory, for example, C:\, so that also would be one of the groups with the new option.

Not really, it's mainly cosmetic stuff left.

I was hoping to get it done before the end of the year but it didn't work out. I'll release an official release date when I have one, but I'd say we have a good chance of releasing in this month.

This is a great idea and it will be included to the next released build!

Bug fix: "Never Show Again" does not work on empty folders in Clean and Fix.  It does not store these in SuperEasyFixIgnoreList.dat; thereby, they are always detected.

How about just using the drive letter as the group caption for files that are chosen as clean candidates by the File Cleaner scan but which are not in a specified directory.

For example, per ...\Cache\SearchDirs.dat, my File Cleaner Groups would be:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Temp\

C:\ProgramData\Temp\

C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\

C:\Windows\

C:\Windows\system32\

C:\Windows\Temp\

Plus "C:\" for any thing else (on C:\) the tool chooses for the list.

I suppose other partition letters could also be group captions, if the tool scans unspecified areas there.

Maybe some combination of SearchDirs.dat, ProgramDirs.dat, and TempDirs.dat fully specifies what File Cleaner searches (I don't know). If so, there are no unspecified areas.

XP-SP3 with v2.0.0.996(beta4c):

1.SW uninstaller finds only 39 items (4 more than beta4b) but again 2 SW items are displayed twice, with just a different installation date!

A well known other free product finds 105 items, no double lines, all 105 items make sense to me!

2.Running SW Uninstaller for a second time in the same jv16PT2011-beta4c session, comes up with an empty software list ("no items found").

Closing and restarting jv16PT2011-beta4c resets the system.

I wanted to 'replay' your test in XP-SP3 and W7 x86, but I am afraid I do not understand the 'text in red'.

I tested my 4 remaining issues from v2.0.0.995 in v2.0.0.996.

1.two issues fixed

2.two issues remaining:

--SW Uninstaller still misses many installed sw products and lists two software items twice, with only a differenyt installation date.

--Aborting the download of the not installed 'Malware feature' causes the pop-up of an "exeption application error"
