Since the items in Prefetch are program names, not file names, it would be difficult for a program to tell if an item is invalid. Probably interpretation of the enigmatic content of an item's .pf file would be required to determine the file path.

The user probably would have a better idea of which items, including valid ones, are not really needed in Prefetch. For example:

I know the setup items are not needed, even though they are valid, because I usually only run them once.

All the jv16PT.exe items are likely valid different versions and are used frequently due to beta testing or other reasons.

Advanced users can use File Finder to list everything in Prefetch and selectively remove (with backup) the ones they know are no longer needed.

I just did that for the two jv16 setup items. I don't know what impact that may have, but I don't expect any.

That would be applicable for Registry Finder, Registry Cleaner, and the File Tools that have Grouping tabs.

These items are currently at the To Do list and will be implemented.

I have been working today to improve, simplify and re-code the two main testing systems of PowerTools.

1. Unit Testing Tool. This is a simple one-button-wonder tool that automatically checks many critical features of PowerTools with random inputs and verifies the outputs are valid. This tool is run before every single release of PowerTools to make sure no major issues have been introduced to the program in the last few minutes of development before the release. Users can run this tool to make sure everything is also working in their environment.

2. Color Debug Tool has been renamed to "Program Debug Tool" and greatly simplified. From now on, the feature only checks whether you have opened all program's windows (i.e. tools) and clicked each and every button. Check boxes and radio buttons are not at all monitored. This greatly simplifies the tool and makes sure there are no bugs in the Debug Tool. That wouldn't be good :

And in addition, a new testing concept has been created: Beta Testing Release. Starting now, all future releases of PowerTools are either official builds or beta testing releases. The difference is that in beta testing release the Debug menu is always visible in the Main Window (no need to do the Ctrl + Shift thingie), and that the Program Debug Tool is constantly working to monitor which tools you are using.

With these new improved and more systematic testing features I am most confident that we will be seeing the highest quality PowerTools release when PowerTools 2010 is ready.

I'd like the following feature.

When the Registry Cleaner scan has finished the results display opens. This is divided into various sections, Obsolete Software, Invalid File or Directory etc.. I'd like to see a context menu appear if i right click on the header of a section and have the ability to copy all of that sections entries to the clipboard.

This feature would be particularly useful during beta testing.

This would be Very useful during testing, & also at other times.

Instead of copying to the clipboard, it could instead save a listing of the selected keys, or a listing of the selected heading...
