What a day! The morning I worked with PowerTools 2009 and I think it's rather ready, after that I spent the rest of the day fixing and improving PowerTools 2010.
And TestVersion 11 of PowerTools 2010 has now been released to a group of about 15 people. The testing group gets bigger by every release, and soon, hopefully in a week or two we can extend the group of testers by launching the public beta testing program.
But before that, the test versions are given only to a selected group of people. And I tried not to forget anyone, sorry if I did so again :
Here is the info about TestVersion 11:
Known Bugs
* There are many graphical corruption issues in the GUI, these are only cosmetic issues and will be solved before the final version.
* After the initial setup, the blue selection graphics are not always working in the main window. Restarting the program solves the issue.
* Sorting by clicking the columns is not yet fully implemented.
* Column data does not get filled in the File Tool(s). For example, if you select to show also the "Last Modified" column, it will remain empty.
* The Age and Commenting features are not yet implemented.
* Ctrl + Alt + F filter panel is not supported by the new list component.
* Registry and System health scores are not yet updated by scanning the computer using "Clean and fix my computer", only using the Registry Cleaner.
* "Clean and fix my computer" might not always finish, in such case you can finish the scan with the Abort button.
Bugs Fixed (since TestVersion 10):
1. Registry Finder: with the protective tool overlay, after the first run in a PT session, the tool window's size can no longer be changed with the mouse.
2. Two files keep appearing in the PT2010 main folder: profile.txt values.txt
3. Anti-malware tool: the tool window comes up with a download directory filled in. When you click "Re-detect," it adds the same directory to the list. Click it again, and you have the same directory in the list three times. And so on
4. Anti-malware tool: the "Show the analysis result of all files" checkbox is greyed out. The feature should be invisible unless program is run in Debug Mode, not grayed out. Fixed now.
5. When opening the History Cleaner the Main Window would close only after History Cleaner had generated its list.
6. Registry Cleaner: on a x64 system, Compare results … fails to ask for the competitive file. Instead, the tool puts out three error messages. The implied sequence of the messages does not make sense. (Note: the error messages have been fixed, not the actual bug)
7. When "Open in Regedit" is used, the RegEdit sometimes doesn't open as the top window.
8. When running the Registry Cleaner many times in a row, it could say "Tool still running" even if was already finished.
9. Improved the safety of the Registry Cleaner's "Left-Over software scan"
10. Checking any item with the Startup Manager would cause the program to hang or crash.
11. Drag and dropping files to Anti Malware tool's first box does not work under Vista with UAC enabled.
12. If a PowerTools window had a Log Panel visible when the window was closed, the next time the window was opened it was opened larger than previously because the height of the Log Panel was also saved.
13. Clicking the "Normal" radio button under Registry Cleaner's "Advanced Engine Settings" tab selected wrong set of scan modules.
14. All tools that need one (and only one) item selected, for example the Custom Uninstall of the Software Uninstaller tool, did not work even if only one item was selected.
15. Custom Uninstall of the Software Uninstaller tool could give a wrong error message ("Please select only one file") instead of the right one ("Please select only one item").
16. Using the Registry Cleaner, or other tools, many times in a row caused the settings of the tools change by themselves if "Close the tool window after results are shown" was unchecked from the Program Settings (enabled by default)
17. If "Close the tool window after results are shown" was unchecked from the Program Settings (enabled by default), a protective overlay is used with tools to prevent the user from changing the settings while the tool, e.g. Registry Cleaner, was running. The transparency effect did not work with the tab images of many tools. Fixed now.
18. A bug fixed from the Known Bugs list: "Clean and fix my computer" shows empty groups.
19. Removing History/MRU data with the "Clean and fix my computer" sometimes didn't work, the tool didn't remove anything.
20. Uninstalling software with the Software Uninstaller doesn't reset its list between refreshes, this causes duplicate data to be listed after each click of the Uninstall button.
21. "Open in RegEdit" did not work properly in the "Clean and fix my computer".
22. Fixed a bug that caused the Anti-Malware's detection of system's Download Directories to miss some such directories.
23. The File Tool's progress indicator did not work with the Copy To and Move To features.
24. Some features of the File Tool, such as Copy To and Move To, did not honor the clicking of the Abort button properly. The Copy/Move To feature also caused the list to freeze if Abort was used during a Copy/Move operation.
25. Fixed two bugs from the Registry Cleaner engine that could cause false positives. One of which is the one with PowerTools 2009.
26. Registry Cleaner caption area: when a red path root directory (e.g., C:\foobar\xyz\pgm.exe) does not exist, the Explore feature does nothing when you try to Explore the drive letter (e.g C:\)
27. After running the Initial Setup you are given a score for your Registry Health. After running the Registry Cleaner this value is updated, but with the previous versions the updated values were incorrect.
Other Improvements (since TestVersion 10):
1. Made the "initial setup" a little bit faster and it now produces a smaller yet better quality SysCache.dat file
2. Improved the progress indication (number of values and keys analyzed) of the Registry Cleaner
3. Registry Cleaner: when the path in a value does not start with a drive letter, the caption area has no way to invoke "Explore."
4. After uninstalling software with the Software Uninstaller, after each uninstall the list is re-generated and this takes many seconds. The re-generation of the list is now removed from the Uninstall feature.
5. Drag and dropping a lot of files to PowerTools opens them in the File Tool. However, this was very slow, the speed of this feature is greatly improved.
6. If you used the Ctrl-Click method in e.g. Registry Cleaner to open a registry key or a directory that do not exist, nothing happened. Now the program at least gives you an error message.
7. The Registry and System Health scores were not updated with any previous versions if e.g. registry errors were removed. The data is now updated upon each Registry Cleaner and "Clean and fix my computer" run.
8. "Clean and fix my computer" didn't support the Statistics system, it does now.
