As far as I can tell, if you only open the PowerTools' main window and the close the product there is no way it could modify the system in any ways and therefore I cannot see how it could cause this problem.

The solution: start JV16 2009 by a right clic on the icon, and choose "Start as administrator". So, it is far easier than suppressing the UAC ! MR:-)

This is not the solution, have done this from the beginning but it solves not the UAC JAVA problem that JV16 powertools 2009 Causes!

I Installed JV16 Power tools on my brothers computer a 32bit Vista Ultimate, and the same happend to him. When opening ie7 after installation of Jv16 power tools. UAC prompted permission for all installed plugins. And exactly as i did my self in my computer i said yes to all prompts but in some way it messes up JAVA i have tested on 4 computers and the same thing happends on all. Install and reinstall JAVA dosent help the only way to get it working is by turning UAC off. This a real issue and a critical one to, i am not alone with this problem. As you can see on the forum.

As you see into other forum threads, many have problem with permission to files in new JV16 Power tools 2009. This wasn't an issue in 2008 version can this have something to do with it!

I too have the same problem on 32bit Vista Ultimate. What's funny is Java works in Opera 9.6, Google Chrome and Firefox 3 but refuses to work in I.E. 7. I've uninstalled Java and reinstalled several times now. I hope someone figures this out.

IE7-->Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks -- an advanced setting

Environment:

* Vista BE (not SP1)

* Data Execution Prevention (DEP) method: hardware enforcement

* IE7 v.7.0.6000.16764 -- the IE7 shortcut must be marked "Run as administrator."

. Otherwise you can't change the above mentioned advanced setting with UAC on.

* Java 6 Update 11

* PowerTools was not even running.

Procedures:

Java with IE7 fails consistently if you do the following:

1. Start IE7-->Tools-->Advanced-->check Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks-->Apply-->OK-->close IE7

2. Start IE7 and do something that uses java.

3. IE7 fails with a buffer overflow exception (BEX). This happens every time you do step 2.

The problem goes away if you do this:

1. Start IE7-->Tools-->Advanced-->uncheck Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks-->Apply-->OK-->close IE7

2. Start IE7 and do something that uses java. No problem …

It made no difference whether UAC was on or off. It could be made to fail or not fail the same way.

Conclusion:

Microsoft and Sun have an issue.

Suggestion:

If you are having this problem and the above mentioned IE7 setting is on (i.e., checked),

try turning it off. It takes affect the next time you start IE7.

You are wrong. This is not the fix to the problem. I have installed this on 4 Vista 32 bit Ultimate machines and the problem comes on all computers after installation of JV16 Power tools 2009. What in JV16 Powertools 2009 creates this problem. In some strange way it resets UAC because when you open ie7 it prompts for permission of all installed plugins (After installation of JV16 powertools 2009). All computers worked perfectly with UAC before the installation of JV16 Power tools 2009. This is an real issue. By the way your fix dosent work!

CONCLUSION JV16 POWER TOOLS 2009 HAS A PROBLEM!

Gents as i described above, the problem arises after the quick tutorial is run, and specifically somehow with the choosing of message display option, which somehow resets plugins permissions, and not only Java but download managers, flash and so on.

More tests:

If you do as suggested and run JV as admin, you will get one prompt and no further, however go into settings and change the messaging option, click test , close JV run IE and you get the endless protected mode prompts.

This issue is NOT there in JV 2008 or any version prior i used to date.

I agree totally. Macecraft must realise this problem! The problem only arise for IE7 user. I hope macecraft addresses this issue emidetly! But i didnt do any changes when installing the problem was there anyway!

And the problem is that the reset of UAC breaks JAVA in IE7. No other browser affected. And you cant repair it.Uninstall and install again nothing solves it.The only way to fix it is disable UAC. Bad news for IE7 users.

That's how I normally run, and yes, everything works. Everything also works when I enable UAC, so I'm a bit confused.

Actually, it was not a fix to the problems you have been reporting. Nothing I have tried so far makes those problems happen on my systems.

I was just reporting on an actual java/IE7 problem that can be made to happen or not happen at will with an IE7 setting. I noticed it while trying to make your problems happen, but it apparently has nothing to do with the reported issue. Sorry about that.

Unfortunately, I had no luck reproducing the problems reported here. I suppose I don't use the right sort of java apps with IE7.

It fails to read in all Java applets!

And when you test your Java on the Java test page you only get a frame with a mark in the left corner.

Does it hang? Does it crash? Does it present some sort of message?

When the reset happens after installation, java ask permission to run (UAC), you click yes and then goes to java test page and then i doesn't work, nothing else happens.
