RC1b interface issues:

* File Finder - Search by attributes menu: Under 'Look only for files with...', the 1st and 3rd items are the same - Read only attribute. I suspect the 3rd item should be System file attribute. Also, the items are unevenly spaced - Hidden attribute is a pixel or 2 low.

* Directory Finder - Search by size: The 3 drop-down boxes under Directories that are are a pixel or 2 too high, causing half of the beveled top edge of the 1st drop-down box to be obscured.

* Recommend that the phrase "This will take up to a few minutes" used throughout the program be changed to "This may take a few minutes".

* Registry Find & Replace - Replace with: The Only matching data sentence is a pixel or 2 too low, causing the radio button beneath it to be partially obscured.

* Start Menu Tool - In the Running Mode box, the 2nd radio button is partially obscured by the 1st button.

* System Cleaner - Automation: In the The task should start... box, the top edges of check boxes 2 thru 6 are obscured, presumably because the check box above is too close.

I realize these are minor issues, but I really want this version of the program to look and function as flawlessly as possible. Thanks for letting me help.

All 20 tweaks appear to apply successfully.

However, when you try to undo even a single tweak, this new behavior occurs:

1. When you click "Apply," the progress indicator pops up.

2. It hangs, and the Abort button does not respond to clicking.

3. You can close the tool window, but if you click the System Optimizer icon in the main window, the tool window reappears with the hung progess indicator.

4. You have to exit PT all the way. Then when you do the System Optimizer again, the tweak is indeed undone.

5. To undo all 20 tweaks, it seems you have to do all that twenty times …

Added note: all 20 Entries.reg files created in the ...\Backups\_SystemOptimizer folder do indeed cause their respective tweaks to be unchecked in the System Optimizer window. I pasted the active content into a single Undo all.reg file and applied it outside of PowerTools.

"Custom uninstall" for the Netscape item no longer lists items associated with Microsoft Office.

However,

1 Clicking "Delete" gets the message shown in the screenshot even though all 8 lines are selected.

2. The "Files" icon lists over 1300 files from C:\Program Files\Opera\.

3. It seems the safest way to get Netscape off the software list is to do a "Never show again."

4. One may also do "Uninstall" twice from the software list, and say "No" when asked if C:\Program Files\Opera\ should be deleted.

I'm also having an issue with Startup Manager but with 32 bit Vista. The Startup Manager in 2008 gives me 43 entries total and 2009 gives me only 17??

The last thing I noticed is pretty minor, but I will mention it. On the Main Screen by the Health Meters, the "Registry Health" line is cut off. It looks like it says "Reaistrv Health".

Automation Tool, Delete Files with the File Cleaner feature only ends manually

Whether you set it up to "Automatically close down jv16 PowerTools when done" or not, the tool window stays up and you have to close it, and the main window which then appears, manually.

Both "Delete files from directories" features must be killed

Whether you set it up to "Automatically close down jv16 PowerTools when done" or not, the task stays active and you have to kill it with the task manager. This also happens with the "Empty directories" feature.

Ending woes ...

One, sometimes both, of these errors occur when you exit the main window and there is another jv16PT.exe process active.

The "Runtime error" pop-up sometimes loops, appearing repeatedly across the screen until you manage to click its OK button.

Default font size in jv16 Power Tools 2009 RC1b Startup Window is changed from "MS Sans Serif, Regular, Size=10" in "Segoe Gui",

which displayes as a smaller default font size.

Being well into the "reading glass age" : I strongly prefer the former beta-1/2/3/4/ font settings.

Using File/Settings Tool/Interface; to change the font back to "MS Sans Serif, Regular, Size=10;

results in truncated text (horizontal cut-off) at line level and abbreviated text between the icons.

On Vista SP1 64bit, the Registry health score and Registry scan speed do not show up on the Registry Cleaner Scan Report. This occurs even after have run a quick system analysis

Settings Tool -- unexpected message behavior change

The message options mysteriously change:

1. Launch PT2009

2. Click the Settings Tool icon

3. Click the Messaging icon; messaging is already set to show extended information in message windows

4. Click the Test button -- a test message appears in a just appended message window

5. Click Cancel

6. Start the File Cleaner set to do "Temp dirs"

7. Messaging has unexpectedly reverted to the "normal Windows dialogs"

8. Upon exiting and relaunching PT2009, it is back to showing extended information in message windows

Running Vista SP1 64bit. This problem does not reveal itself on my XP-SP3 system...just the Vista SP1 64bit with the RC1b version of PT 2009.

The icon problem posted earlier for Quick Launch also shows up in the START>Programs area. I typically assign the application icon to the respective application folder in the Start>Programs menu so that I see immediately if something has been added on my system. The PT 2009 icon for jv16PT.exe does not display properly. This was not occurring in the Beta versions.

It does not seem to be a monitor resolution issue. I have applied various screen resolutions from 1168-1920 with no change in the icon.

Registry Cleaner Scan Report - a minor counting discrepancy

I did a Quick select: Aggressive scan with the raw list results format. The list showed 91 lines; 31 were {KEY} items; 60 had entry names. The Scan Report (below) said there were 92 errors, 31 key items, and 61 entry items.

Registry Cleaner Scan Report - a more significant counting discrepancy

I did a Quick select: Aggressive scan with the structured list results format. The status bar showed 118 errors; 31 were key items; 87 were entries. The Scan Report (below) said there were 118 errors, 47 key items, and 71 entry items.

It seems with the structured format scan, the Scan Report is counting a substantial number of entries as keys.
