This is correct, the System Optimizer cannot change pre-set tweaks because it cannot know the previous value. But I think I should change the way it works that instead of the current error message the feature should instead use the Windows default value...

Yes! Otherwise you can't reverse a tweak already pre-set by, for example, the hardware vendor.

That should work well for simple binary (on or off) tweaks.

More complex tweak values (if there are any in the set supported by the System Optimizer) might require a different approach, if remembering the pre-set value is an objective.

I've noticed similar temporary glitches when I first use a new version, but they don't persist.

I'm assuming it's perhaps due to some combination of windows setting up prefetch things, and PT initially searching for a valid license, and PT establishing a working set, and the AV program doing an initial look, and ... ?

I am not a programmer, but though the tooltip duration seems to be "determined" by Windows, there's reason for accepting the duration of display can be controlled by programming individual software, at least some results after googling for Tooltip duration, Tooltips display time, have given me that impression...

Here is what I got when I ran it in safe mode. I have also installed sp2 for vista v113 that is still in beta testing. I ran it with emphasize the numbers of found errors and speed of the registry cleaner engine over safety and accuracy and have list MRU and other history data checked.

If the user just selects the Netscape Navigator line and clicks Uninstall, the program also removes the Microsoft Office keys shown at the reference.

This bug should now be fixed, thank you for reporting! I did a lot of improvements to the Software Manager, mainly the way different registry keys are being related to specific software etc.

If the user just selects the Netscape Navigator line and clicks Uninstall, the program also removes the Microsoft Office keys shown at the reference.

This bug should now be fixed, thank you for reporting! I did a lot of improvements to the Software Manager, mainly the way different registry keys are being related to specific software etc.

Good. In RC1, I'll take out the ignore list and see how PT2008 and PT2009 compare.

This is correct, the System Optimizer cannot change pre-set tweaks because it cannot know the previous value. But I think I should change the way it works that instead of the current error message the feature should instead use the Windows default value...

Yes! Otherwise you can't reverse a tweak already pre-set by, for example, the hardware vendor.

This improvement has now been implemented: starting from the next version the System Optimizer will be able to undo all but one of the tweaks even if you don't have the backups.

Registry Cleaner, Structured list

The list had 3 userassist entries with invalid file references. I selected them by clicking the error category bar, clicked Delete, and answered the backup dialogue. The progress indicator showed for a while, then the selected lines dropped off the list and the message box said only that zero things were removed. There was no backup. A rescan showed the items were indeed not removed.

You have to drag the tool window taller to see all the words.

This is new (or newly noticed) in beta4.

Good catch! This little problem has now been fixed, thank you for reporting. I made a generic fix that fixes the problem with all Ignore Words tabs, so no need to report if the same problem also occurs in other tools than the mentioned File Cleaner and File Finder.

The window needs a little more work:

1. It responds too slowly to just about any mouse action.

2. The detail lines lack check boxes or some other way of remembering your select decisions. As you go through the list, its too easy to lose all your prior selections. The behavior is OK for users whose routine is Select all, click Fix.

3. If each error category bar also had a selection check box, it could be used to automatically select/deselect all the detail lines in the category.

4. IMO, there should be a user selectable default in the tool window for the initial state of the error category bars (expand or collapse).

When scanning the registry for errors in the component : registry keys with incorrect permissions or owner the date shows some strange behaviour . (entry last modified ) , i had the same issue with previous beta's of this product .

It is also not possible to delete or fix this data .

Has maybe something to do with vista exceptions ?
