For some reason my floppy drive is "sought" after starting, although i searched my D drive (?!)

Click Undelete

Although no file is selected from the list it plays along, asks for a destination folder...and choosing one makes the whole program "hang" as the Abort button doesn't work in that case

Probably you mean Directory Finder - because in Directory Tool is no "Search in"-tab.

But in all Tools with a "Search in"-tab you will find a button called "Add" who opens the window you need .

I wasn't saying there is no way to add folders.... but in case i did not for some reason the program would be a lot more friendly if the line "At least one source directory" would be a link which will bring the "search in" tab to the front

And yes i meant the dictionary finder in that example my mistake...

There are many, many warnings and info's in Message Windows popping up all over the program. Well it is (and will) be impossible to click on those messages I suppose.

yep and i disagree and think it should be changed if possible

why not guide the user if we can... and if i tried to click on it myself thinking it will guide me it is probably not that far fetched (probably because it does look like a hyperlink - it should not be underlined and colored in that shade of blue otherwise :) so my suggestion is hyperlink the ones possible - the you forgot to fill ones - and change the look of the others)

I found 2 bugs in startup manager:

1 (minor): when I start RC1 for the first time, using startup manager, none of the "enabled" checkboxes are checked.

2 (mild): one entry id displayed with data coming from the previous entry in the list.

reproduce:

check "all starting application and libraries"

I see: Apachemonitor with the right data.

The next entry comes from

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd\StartupPrograms.

the key value is "rdpclip" shown in the entry data. the program, name and system entry (probably) comes from the previous entry.

When I goes under file on the main page and does a Quick System Analysis it appears to scan but that's it.Should this lead to another page?

File Recovery -- unclear pop-up

When I recover a several files to a folder, and some of the files already exist there with the same name, I get the pop-up shown below for each such file.

The Yes button appears to ignore (skip) the recovery for the current file (the path shown for the current file is the original path, not the one chosen in the Undelete button dialogue). The No button provides a dialogue to recover the current file with a new name.

These actions are appropriate, but the pop-up is not very intuitive -- it needs some rework …

List filter -- obsolete option?

Now that the filter works across multiple columns, the "NOT matching items" does nothing.

I suggest "Show" and the two radio buttons be dropped from the filter bar …

The Desktop shortcut to buy a PT 2008 licence or upgrade is pointing to - I presume - the finnish page of PT 2007.

File Finder:

renaming

Search for all files in some folder

Select on of the files

Rename the file to a name of another file listed in the results and is in the same folder (using "More Functions...")

The name will change in the results window and no error will pop up... (although the file obviously wasn't changed)

Renaming one of the files again may now cause the other file to be renamed :)

Moving

Move a file to another folder where another file with the same name exists (using "More Functions...")

The regular windows dialog asking whether i want to replace the file or not pops up

Even if i answer no the file disappear from the results and the confirmation message "Done!" will be added to the message window

Merging

When merging files from different folders, how do i know where is the file created? maybe it should be noted in the message window or the user should be asked about his preference?

Splitting

In case one of the parts created has the same name of a file that already exists in the folder, that file will be replaced with no warning or a chance to backup!

The same thing i wrote about moving is true about copying

Registry Finder:

"Export as .reg file..." gives no warning or a chance to backup if i accidentally choose a name that already exists (or accidentally choosing an existing file before saving)

Registry Compactor:

I said it in the past :) an analyze button which will fill the "Size after" column before doing anything is a must have

Directory Tool:

again... the "Rename..." option in "More Functions..." doesn't check to see if the name already exists and the name is updated in the list although of course the file cannot be renamed if the new name already exists.

Registry Manager / Software Manager:

As i pointed out in some earlier version, the "find more information online" can use some filtering, names that start with the sign " for example makes it open a useless URL.

Startup Manager:

I selected an entry the chose Disable but prevented it from happening using a security software.

SM successfully reported Failed to remove ...! Windows core returned the following error: "Access is denied."

BUT it did update the Enabled column to No. (although it did nothing and even reported the error)

End proccess.... it does nothing (?!?!?) i tried ending some active programs, nothing happens

Start Menu and Desktop tool

This tool is a bit different in its behavior, more user friendly IMO:

It grays out the delete/fix buttons when they are irrelevant instead of waiting for the user to click on them (even if no item is selected) just to pop up a message box saying so.

BUT

Doesn't gray out the buttons and i can keep clicking the delete button after there in no item selected

(causing the message "0 broken shortcuts fixed, 0 broken shortcuts removed, 0 empty directories removed" in the message window each time)

Backup Tool

Restoring a file gives no warning or a chance to backup in case a new file was already created with the same name in the original destination, i am guessing that the same also goes for registry keys but i did not check.

That's a pretty brutal behavior not expected from a backup tool :

Quick analysis works as expected now. It doesn't start every time and the filecache.dat is now created.

File finder finds files if I specify the root of the drive but specifying a specific folder it finds no files.

Same thing with duplicate file finder it only finds results if the root of the drive is selected.

Just downloaded RC1, it appears the problem with the PC health and PC Registry has been resolved. As I further explore this release, I will continue to evaluate this latest release

I could not confirm this. I used several Saved Preferences which specified specific folders. Both tools found the expected files.

I have vista home premium and when I chose c:\users\my username\ documents and searched for .ttf files it found nothing but when I use c:\ it finds all kinds of .ttf files on my system. I had even typed in a specific file name and the folder it was in and it didn't find it.

did a search for .pdf and it finds files in the program files folder but skips user folders. shouldn't it search the documents folder and other user created folders. I moved a folder from documents to c:\DOCS and let file finder run, my file shows up in the results.

I just did File Finder searches in c:\users\my username\documents for *.lnk ... with Options system directories to improve safety:

Checked, it found nothing

Not checked, it found many files

So try unchecking that option ... it seems windows considers user folders to be system folders.

The debug message "nox7" means that the program is about to show a delayed error message. In this context, the error that you are trying to use too old PT 2007's license with PT 2008.

So, this is nothing to worry about. The final version doesn't show the nox7 debug message, only the license error (if needed).

The Desktop icon created by the setup program is "jv16 PowerTools", while

the Desktop icon created by the program itself is "jv16 PowerTools 2008".

The names of both should be the same, since their contents are the same.

Here is a report of bugs confirmed and/or fixed since the last report. All these fixes are included in the next released beta versions.

Problem: The caption bars of many tools show incorrect tool names, such as Registry Finder's result window says "Registry Compactor"

Problem: Using the following settings in v 1.7.0.416 finds the registry hive entries:

Search words: CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist

Options: search only HKLM and only analyze key names

Ignore words: {KEY} and N/A

With the same settings, PT2008 beta1 no longer finds the registry hive entries.

Status: Confirmed. However, this is not a bug but a policy change: if you set the Registry Finder to search for keys, it shouldn't return any registry entries as it did with previous versions.

Problem: Registry Finder doesn't show the date of the found entries, instead it displays "StringDate"

Dear Supportteam,

after the (successful) installation of the 'Powertools 2008 - RC1' i start the JV16.exe.

It shows a window "Debug message, code: urt-3", after closing

"xForms AntiCrack-2 triggered!".

Then it shows directly, that my trialperiod of 30-days is over now - but I had never successfully tested the program until today.

This is my first installation.

I try to deinstall/reinstall it, no changes.

Do you have a solution or can you help?

P.S: I try to use the "new installer" too, but also here no change to start the JV16 successfully.
