Could you please verify this? As far as I can tell the problem is fixed, the Backup Tool by default sorts by the date column.

Here are the results of bug fixing of the RC3 done since the last report. Notice that the Reported by field means the user who was the first to report the problem. If there are errors in these reports, please let me know since these are used when it is decided which users qualify for the free personal license.

Issues found by beta testers

Issue: Tools >> Add Shortcut to Desktop >> History/MRU Cleaner Does not give a Done! status and no shortcut gets added.

Issue: I just noticed a minor problem with the new icons in Vista. The UAC shield, that Vista puts on some program icons, covers the little gear thing in front of the monitor in the Main Program Icon. This makes it look sort of like the Explorer icon.

Issue: Duplicate File Finder: When you abort the operation, then click Start on the tool window, the tool appears to run (messages in message box). But the results window is empty.

Issue: One problem I'm finding with the Registry Cleaner is that it keeps going to the window down from maximised when it is running. ie I have the JV16 console open then start Registry Cleaner, while this is running I maximise the window, this window then suddenly switches back to the smaller size.

Status: This is because the tool must show the message window. But this is now handled in a better way (imho) with the Final version and later.

Am running Vista Premium on a Dell XPS 410 Dual Core which has the Intel Viiv and Intel Matrix Storage Monitor software on it.

RC3 Registry Cleaner removes registry keys that are necessary for the Viiv software and Matrix Storage Monitor to function. For example, the Viiv icon in the Systray disappears and the Vista Sidebar started using 50-60% CPU time following a Registry Clean and reboot.

I have not isolated which keys are being removed, but I had to do a Restore from the Backup to get my system back to normal.

The context menu in the structured list is better, but still does not work quite right.

Observations:
1. When the scan completes, the context menu anywhere on the list is fully populated, although no list elements are highlighted.

As far as I can tell this is a problem with Vista, under Windows XP it's impossible to click on the tree list without selecting any items. My best guess is that there are some items selected but due to some policy change in Vista the selection is not shown if the user clicked on the background of the tree view component.

It does not always behave as described in my report … it is similarly inconsistent on my XP Pro system …

I suppose if one always does a Select All --> Fix/Remove, it doesn't matter …

File Cleaner listed about 700 files in two system Temp diirectories.

I use the Search Tool to select the lines for C:\Windows\Temp, then clicked Remove
*** All selected lines but 1 left the list and the files were backed up and deleted, except for the 1

*** For that 1, PT said "failed to access" -- win explorer said "… being used by another …" (?)

*** A correct looking "All done" message with counts appeared in the message box

I then used Select > inverse to select the about 550 files listed from the User Temp directory, then clicked Remove

The default does not persist, as I described in items 1 and 2 in the report ...

What do you mean the default doesn't persist? If you first open the tool the default sorting is working properly, but when you later use the tool the sorting isn't set correctly, is that it?

Yes, exactly ... and it is never set with "Created" as the default in the "Files" tab.

It is not the exact same set of files -- there were some new files in the temp directories when I did the restore ...

Apparently it is related to volume. I copied just two .dat files from PT Settings directory into each of the now almost empty temp directories. There were less than 10 files on the list. When I repeated the procedure, the "All done" message and counts came out for both the first directory and the second directory.

I have this error reported a few days and i am reproducing this error almost every day,when starting up the program (jv16PT.exe) : it sometimes does not start up the first time,after the second time it works,i am using windows vista home premium edition Dutch,

Registry Cleaner, a strange result ... (Vista)

I started RC, Quick select: normal, raw list, and got a messed up Registry Finder results window (see thumbnail).

It happened again when I restarted RC. I had just previously run Registry Finder.

So I closed all PT windows, relaunched PT, and Started RC -- that time, the results window was back to a normal RC result ..

Then I closed all the RC windows and ran Registry Finder with a normal results screen.

Then I closed all the RF windows and started RC again -- the strange result happened again!

Conclusion: If, in the same PT session, you run Registry Finder, then run Registry Cleaner, you get a mixed result!

Added note: It also happens on my XP Pro system.

There is a bug in the registry compactor of build 1.7.0.383 (RC3) that destroys the registry structure. : I cannot at this time give specifics as the bug completely destroyed my OS and I had to reinstall the complete system from media. Upon reinstallation, I again ran the registry compactor and than ran the registry compactor from Vista Manger 1.1.6. Vista Manager found that it had to add several bytes to the registry.

Specifics of the computer:

Make/ model: HP Pavillion dv9225us

CPU: AMD tl-60

ram: 2 gigs.

Firewall/ anti-virus: Kapersky Internet Security 6.0.2.621

I can send complete system setup, but the data is too long for this post.
