RC1 doesn't work with XP Prof x64.... but the Beta 5 works fine.

Jv, just to clarify prior Registry Cleaner reports ...

When I run the raw list:

There is never a scan report

The "finished" messages are always incomplete

When I run the structured list:

There is always a scan report

The "finished" messages are complete

Except for the list type, all the settings are the same.

In raw view, reg cleaner keeps giving me "must select at least one item in list" when I hit, fix, custom fix or remove. But I already did!

My overall impression of rc1: This thing's buggier than TacoBell after-hours. Until it's fixed, any chance of beta 5 being reposted? At least it worked properly.

And this is weird, because jv16 betas have never given me trouble before. What happened? I'm running Vista Ultimate, but beta 5 worked on it.

File Cleaner with only "Temp dirs" tab active (Vista)

1. "Detect temp dirs" button worked perfectly; scan found:

C:\Temp\ (no files)

C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\ (60+ files)

C:\Windows\Temp\ (40+files)

2. Selected all in C:\Windows\Temp\ and hit the Remove button

a. All (except one) backed up and removed OK

b. The one was expected (a zero length file held by active Avast) -- it got a "Failed to access" message

c. There was a problem in the list GUI:
1) One of the removed files stayed on the list (the Avast file did too - a good thing))

2) Clicking the list caused the window to become unresponsive; jv16PT.exe CPU use jumped to 50%

3) The window could be Xed to close it

3. Scanned again to list the 60+ ...\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\... files

a. Selected the Avast file and hit "Remove" (to reshow the "Failed to access" message)

b. Selected inverse and hit "Remove"

c. Problem -- the tool does not recognize that lines are selected (see screenshots)

The problem will be fixed in RC2 which is to be released in next week. Same goes to many other bugs present in RC1, I'll post my complete bug fixing report later today.

I don't care that much about the appearance of the main window icons -- I am used to clicking based on the tool titles.

However, at the very least, the program icons could stand a bit of transparency (click the thumbnail to see what I mean).

The PT 2007 final will contain a new set of icons for all tools, and to the product as well. I was hoping to get the new icons for RC1 but we had some problems with our regular designer and had to hire a new one to do the job, and he had to start from scratch.

1. Used Beta 5 to list the 60+ ...\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\... files

2. Selected all -- Remove button backed up and deleted 40+ files, but 20+ remained on the list (there were no messages about these files)

3. A rescan showed the 20+ files -- this time, Remove button backed up and deleted them all -- and they dropped from the list.

I will redo this in RC2 to see if these minor bugs are there (can't do in RC1 -- tried a few times but selection is not recognized ...)

Duplicate File Finder (Vista)

BUG 1: When I give DFF a list of more than one directory to search, it only searches the last one -- and does it multiple times.

See screenshots for results, messages, and settings ... Note: Beta 5 acts the same way ... PT2006 behaves correctly.

Bug 1 -- no difference in RC3 …

Restatement of problem:
1. You give DFF a list of, say, 5 directories to "search in"

2. DFF does not search the 5 directories

3. It searches the last directory in the list 5 times

Bug 2 -- fixed in RC3 …

BUG 2: When you look at the results, expand a tree, then close the results window to change some settings (or just use the same settings), and then click the Start button (without exiting the tool), the tool no longer does anything useful -- the progress bar just hangs there until you Abort or Close the window. Beta 5 and PT2006 behave in a similar way. If you don't expand a tree, this problem does not happen.

Software manager lacks sanity checking.

I had obsolete entries in my software list.

When I use the "custom uninstall" for one specific entry,

and then use the "run uninstaller" button,

software manager starts unstalling another (valid) product.

Here are the results of bug fixing of the RC1 done since the last report. Notice that the Reported by field means the user who was the first to report the problem. If there are errors in these reports, please let me know since these are used when it is decided which users qualify for the free personal license.

Issues found by beta testers

Issue: All the main buttons of the registry tools (such as Registry Finder) only show "Selection of at least one item from the list." error and do not work.
