That is a lot -- I'm seeing nothing like that on my vista desktop -- I'll install RC1 on my XP Pro laptop and see what it does ...

Incidentally see the last post on page 1 of this topic -- I think it shows a serious bug, but fortunately, windows protects itself (I hope).

I get nothing that high -- see my results below ...

RC1 raw list gets 82 lines:

45 Obsolete software entries

26 Obsolete Add/Remove menu entries

8 Useless file extensions

3 File or directory does not exist

RC1 structured list shows:

Status bar: 19 registry errors (21 keys and 16 entries), 45 keys and 0 of leftover data, 0 keys and 0 entries of unneeded data

Note: 21+16+45=82

Scan report Summary shows: 6 High, 68 Medium, 90 Low

Scan report Statistics shows: the same numbers as the status bar

A later scan "Scan report Summary" shows: 3 High, 34 Medium, 45 Low -- the other numbers were the same ... a times 2 bug in the first scan?

Beta5 raw list gets 18 lines:

3 Useless file extensions

15 File or directory does not exist

PT2006 raw list gets 18 lines:

3 Useless file extensions

15 File or directory does not exist

Without closing the tool window, I just ran:

A raw list scan

Another raw list scan

A structured list scan

Scan report Summary shows: 9 High, 102 Medium, 135 Low (triple the real count)

jv, the Summary count buckets are not being initialized, probably because the raw list scan produces no Scan Report ...

I cannot run this version because of the license issue. I had the previous betas installed before, and I uninstalled beta 5 a month or so ago. RC1 was installed cleanly. I did not have a copy of jv16 2006 installed at all on this machine. I tried uninstalling RC1 and getting rid of a few registry entries with regedit (searched for "jv16"). Still does not work.

I am using WinXP Pro SP2

I assume you have jv16 2006 installed on another machine ...

If yes, just place a copy of that license in the RC1 folder -- that might work -- you should be allowed to use the license on 5 machines (that's what my license says).

here the same issue,i have tested al the beta's version 2007 (from 1 untill 5) , i had never had a problem uninstalling then and testing the next beta,but now i want to install RC 1 version and get the error no valid license found and also when i installed the program the error DEBUG MESSAGE CODE tt0-0 and also XBIN nox7,

I hope it is possible to test this RC 1 version with the same license that i used for the beta 1 untill 5 version. :

Weird -- sometimes RC1 finds 1 software (Avast) with 12 items.

License problems (not)

I have a PT2005 license which works with no problems with PT2005, PT2006, PT2007 (Betas1-5 and RC1), RegSupreme, and RegSupremePro.

All the installed PT2005, PT2006, and PT2007 versions get the license from the one location shown in "PT folder view 2" below. So do the RegSupremes, but they place a copy in their own folders when they run.

All the programs recognize the license (my name appears in the title bar).

C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools\Settings (dt1)\Settings.dat contains this text which probably stops the PTs from searching for a license and placing a copy in their own directories:

I also did a vanilla RC1 install to "C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2007 RC1". Its title bar now shows "jv16 PowerTools 2007 RC1 *Trial Version* (29 days left)". It runs with no problem using default settings instead of the shared "production" settings and License.xbin represented in the screenshots.

Since I can run RC1 with or without a license, I have no real clue as to what is causing the "no valid license found" problems some people are experiencing.

Ok, uninstalled, then, reinstalled. RC1 still won't run.

Directory Finder - sabotaged by Vista redundant (virtual?) paths

When one does a full C:\ search with Directory Finder (with either PT2006 or PT2007), you see the behavior described here.

Will we have to live with this hit on Directory Finder performance in Vista, or can you provide an option to skip the redundant paths?

In the meantime, these ignore words cause DF to behave "normally" (almost):

\AppData\Local\

There is a similar impact on File Finder:
Win explorer properties show 106179 files on C:\

With no ignore words, FF goes through 386000 to 387000 files

With the above ignore words, FF goes through only 123000 to 124000 files ... only? :

If one does not run PT2006 as Administrator, it behaves "normally" (goes through 122000+ files).

PT2007 behaves abnormally run either way. :

I attempted to create a custom backup of the 11 Useless file extension items that got "Failed to remove" because of an "Invalid key" returned from the windows core in a prior run.

The message box said "Done" but no backup was created, not even an empty one.

Apparently RC got an error code from the windows core (or something anyway), but failed to display it ...

Item backed up twice -- used custom backup -- not a real problem since restoring a key twice does not affect the registry ...

Did a custom backup of the selected items (see reply before this one).

When I then tried to remove the items, the selection was no longer recognized ... this may only happen if repeat actions or scans are done without exiting all the PT windows ... will try to confirm this theory (see end of this post) ...

Note: I hit Remove or Fix 3 times ...

Theory not confirmed:
1. Launched PT from a shortcut, did RC raw list scan, did successful custom backup, selection not recognized by Remove button ...

2. Closed results list, hit Start button on tool window to rescan, got the same list, selected the items and hit the Remove button -- selection still not recognized ...

3. Exited all PT windows, relaunched PT from a shortcut, did RC raw list scan, selected the items, hit remove, -- selection still not recognized ...

4. Did another custom backup -- selection was recognized ...

5. Conclusion: there is a bug when you select a few items then try to remove/fix them ...

6. The bug is not consistent, since earlier (here), I did about the same thing without this particular problem -- unless I did the successful removes with the structured list -- I forget. :

7. Did not try a select all because some items on the list are probably not errors (another bug ...) ...

Icons ...

I don't care that much about the appearance of the main window icons -- I am used to clicking based on the tool titles.

However, at the very least, the program icons could stand a bit of transparency (click the thumbnail to see what I mean).

I was then told my trial period had expired.
