jv16 PowerTools 2007 RC1 is now released, you can download it from:

http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/jv16pt_setup_2007_RC1.exe

(if the link doesn't work, it means the beta testing for this version has already ended)

Warning

Do not install this program over any previous version of jv16 PowerTools, always install beta and RC versions to a new directory. This product version is not an official release, it will contain bugs and can cause harm to your computer. Do not download or install this program unless you are willing to take the risk and understand what beta testing means.

On Beta Testing

All beta testers who submit valuable feedback, such as bug reports, performance reports, improvement ideas etc, will receive a free personal license for the product after it has been officially released. Simply installing and testing the application doesn't mean that you would automatically receive a free license, free licenses are issued only to those who submit valuable feedback.

General Release Notes

* You can now start to translate the English.lng, please send all translations to: files@macecraft.com

* This version still lacks a few new icons (for example to the new One Click Cleaner).

* This version does not run under any Win9x system, such as Windows 95, 98, 98 SE nor ME. The program doesn't start due to a missing NT-only DLL file.

* This version does not contain the Disk Defragmenter as it doesn't yet perform as well as it should, it will be included to the product with later update.

*This version contains the new registry cleaner engine and new user interface for the Registry Cleaner, please be careful with it!

And by the way, the rumors of my death were greatly exagerated :

I haven't been much in the Forums lately because I have been busy working on PowerTools, less talk means more work.

There has been rather many changes since the last Beta so I'm not sure if the program is 100% working but I hope it's quite good already. The final version will be released after one or two more RC's.

Used Registry Finder with a single key word "delta". It found 49 references to a program that has been deleted from the system. I selected all 49 (shaded with checks in all) and clicked REMOVE - was provided the following error message:

Now for the bugs:

Registry cleaner: the ..running in aggressive mode.. warning displays on every run.

Hitting abort while the scan is in progress, then exiting the tool and rerunning it gives the error .. tool is already running...

Automation tool: creating a task for registry cleaner then running it from the desktop, jv16 opens hold for a second then exits, not task seems to run.

Registry compactor: doesn't save the select all hives and reboot between runs.

Not all the "scan finished" messages appear in the message box. It is unpredictable which ones will appear.

Added note (RC2): some "finished" messages appear in the results list message box and some in the tool window message box. Screenshot ... Still, not all the messages appear ...

Approximate timings:

PT 2006 -- 40 seconds -- 143 items on list

PT 2007 Beta5 -- 40 seconds -- 0 items on list

PT 2007 RC1 -- 100 seconds -- 0 items on list

When ignore words for certain "TrustedInstaller" keys are used, PT 2006 shows only 4 items on the list. Two are "File or directory does not exist" and two are "Useless file extension." Beta5 and RC1 still show 0 lines -- apparently the "TrustedInstaller" keys are being skipped (on purpose?).

Scan report summary shows 0 High, 33 Medium, 38 Low

Scan report statistics shows 15 registry errors, 34/5 erroneous registry data, 38/0 leftover registry data

In the structured list, the context menu for Regedit doesn't work ...

When doing the structured list, it seems all the "scan finished" messages do appear in the message box.

i seconded this behavior using Vista Ultimate 32.

uninstalling - installing again did not solve the problem.

When running a raw list, there is no scan report -- I suppose this is by design ...

Also, please explain what the debug "Save app data" button does -- for example, what does it save and where does it put the data and ... whatever ...

Perhaps you could provide more specific information for jv to work with.

For example:
Approximately how many "errors" do not get fixed or removed?

What do some of the errors look like?

Are there any indicative messages in the message box?

I get 12 errors and 659 unnecessary entries - seems a lot being a user of beta 5 for a while now

Yes, I'm also having the same trouble in Vista Home Premium 32. I've tried uninstalling, then reinstalling, but no success.
